A minor boy was made to stand naked outside his coaching class here as a punishment, while another underage student accompanied him wearing just a T-shirt, leading police to book two persons for the incident.
The shocking incident came to light on Sunday when a video featuring the two boys, aged about 5-6 years, went viral on social media platforms. The footage shows the two boys – one of them naked and the other just in a T-shirt — standing outside Shreeji Coaching in the suburban Malad, apparently as a punishment. The minors were clutching books, wiping tears and looking around in embarrassment even as people pass by the busy road, where the centre is located.
According to police sources, the video was posted on messaging application WhatsApp by a Malwani resident, who was passing by the Shree Tutorials in Malad on Friday. The video showed one boy completely naked and the other with only a shirt on his body crying incessantly and trying to cover their private parts with their hands.
The video, which was shared widely, reached some police officials, and the Malwani police were instructed to look into the matter. Inquiries in the area helped the police trace the boys, and the police spoke to their families. However, their parents were unwilling to register an FIR, as they feared a backlash from the tuition centre management, said sources.
However, it is not clear when the incident took place. The video was brought to the notice of police, following which we decided to take action, a senior police officer said. Two persons associated with the coaching centre have been booked under the Juvenile Justice Act, he said. No arrest has been made so far and further investigation is underway.
