Kudos to Devendra Jhajharia the new poster body of Indian athletics for becoming the first Indian to clinch two gold medals in men’s javelin throw F46 event at the Rio Paralympics. It is very inspiring that the Rajasthan born athlete, with an amputated left hand, was awarded the Arjuna award in 2004 and the Padma Shri in 2012, becoming the first Paralympian to receive the honour. This clearly shows that differentially abled Indian sportspersons are performing well in international sports events. Young Indians are given opportunity but the facilities and opportunities are not enough, we still have to improve a lot. To win a medal in Olympics is more than just physical and mental capabilities. They should be encouraged with incentives to win more laurels. Government should support and encourage disabled persons in future and help them to lead a more comfortable life, and also with dignity. Let us give due recognition and monetary benefits to such great heroes.
