Gold medal eluded India at the Rio Olympics but that vacuum was filled by Mariappan Thangavelu and Varun Bhati who won gold and bronze respectively at the Paralympics in Rio to the delight of all Indians. Incredible achievement from these sportsmen and they should be honoured like PV Sindhu which would give a real boost to disabled athletes who give off their best in sports inspite of being handicapped. Disability should not be an hurdle if one has the willingness to work hard towards one’s goal and citizens of our country should take a leaf out of Thangavelu and Bhati’s achievement and keep our tricolor flying at all times by giving off their best be it in sports or other profession. The nation of a billion and quarter population salutes these unsung heroes and let us hope their notable fete inspire us all to achieve great things in life!
