India slip to 163rd position in Fifa rankings despite win in Laos

Indian football team slipped one place to occupy 163rd position in the latest FIFA rankings issued on Thursday.

Jeje found the target in the 56th minute from a Udanta Singh assist as a dominant India carved out a win away from home in a long time at the New Laos National Stadium. India had recorded their last away win in 2013 during the 10th SAFF Championships in Nepal.

The win over Laos in a play-off match of the 2019 Asian Cup Qualifiers on Thursday, are one place behind Myanmar among the Asian countries at 29th place.

The Stephen Constantine-coached side’s next encounter will be a return leg in Guwahati against Laos in 7 June, where the Indians will look for a more impressive win, that could possible boost their ranking.

Iran and Korea are the two highest ranked teams in Asia, at 39th and 50th respectively.

Overall, there has been no movement with Argentina and Belgium occupying the number one and two spot.
