Life term till death is an apt punishment for murder most foul and justice has been done to the Keenan-Reuben double murder case which shocked Mumbai half a decade back as the four accused have been found guilty by the courts. Modesty of the fair sex should be respected by all and the judgment should act as a deterrent in today’s world were rapes, molestations and killings are on the rise.
The families of the victims were not in favour of the death penalty as that would have given ‘mukti’ (freedom) to the perpetuers of the crime. Lifetime imprisonment is the right judgment for heinous crimes as the convicts are made to pay for their sins day in and day out till their last breath. Special applause to the ‘brave heart’ victims, girls who were molested as they stood their ground in this fight by ‘giving witness’ which helped nab the culprits.
Our law too needs to support the ‘witnesses’ so that more people come forward to narrate incidents which involve heinous crime so that many culprits can be nailed in future and that would act as a deterrent as well for people committing crimes. The functioning of courts too needs to be altered and made stricter as cases are delayed due to absenteeism of judges and other delays for flimsy reasons. All cases should have a deadline so that appropriate judgement can be delivered in appropriate time!
