A 36-year-old man was arrested for allegedly keeping pets in his residence without permission in Jogeshwari, police said.
Acting on complaint filed by an NGO, police recently raided the house of the person. He was found in possession of two monitor lizards and squirrel, a senior police official said.
The monitor lizards and squirrel were found to be in good health. The person had kept them as pets but did not have necessary permissions and so he was apprehended, said the officer.
A case under section 9 (prohibition of hunting), 39 (protection of specified wild animal), 40 (certificate of ownership) and 44 (dealings in animal articles without licence prohibited) of the Wild Life Protection Act was registered in this regard, he said, adding a probe was on.
