Old Goa police arrested a 35-year-old man from Merces village for allegedly raping a 30-year-old Mumbai-based woman whom he had met through a matrimonial website.
Saiprasad Kerkar, the accused, was arrested after the woman lodged a complaint in the state. Earlier she had approached the Mumbai police. The two got to know each other through a matrimonial site and the woman used to visit Goa to meet the accused, inspector Krishna Sinari said.
Both are divorcees. According to the woman, the accused persuaded her to have sexual relations by promising to marry her, but later refused to keep his word. The judicial magistrate’s court here remanded him in three-day police custody.
