Liquor consumption is bad for health but one does not see any logic in Supreme Court’s verdict of alcohol ban within 500 meters range of national highways. Those who want to drink would make their own arrangements as corruption rules roost in our country and penalising laws should be made stricter than blanket ban on sale of liquor. Liquor is sold for consumption at airports and served on international flights. So, I’m not sure on the logic of banning it near highways.
Laws don’t allow you to drink & drive. Check and balance to track down on drunken driving is a better alternative to bring down accident incidences. Education is the need of the hour and people should be made aware of the dangers of driving in abbreviated state.
Also, if alcohol consumption is banned in some states like Gujarat etc., than why not ban it across the country if that would bring down accident rates and social evils in India.
