Paes must bid adieu to tennis

Leander Paes is undoubtedly the greatest doubles Davis Cup player the world of tennis has ever seen but time is ripe for him to quit and give some youngster a chance to cement his place for the country. Paes is 43- years old and still playing well and perhaps the best player our country has at the moment. But all good things come to an end and even the greatest sportsman Sachin Tendulkar had to call it quits as one cannot go on forever. Spain led by Rafa Nadal deserves all accolades for blanking out the Indians in a one-sided encounter on our home ground to prove their superiority which was never in doubt.

Leander Paes’s contribution to Indian tennis has been mammoth. Several Grand Slam doubles title under his belt and playing alongside top international players is no mean achievement. The ace tennis player should start a tennis academy and pass on some of his skills to youngsters which I am sure he must already be planning at the moment. The nation salutes this talented player and here is wishing him good health and hope he keeps contributing to Indian tennis in some form or the other in the coming years!
