Dance is my oxygen — Archana Joglekar

Pandita Archana Joglekar 0635 1Today, I want to take all of you back to the era of the 1980s and 1990s, a time when lots of new beautiful faces were entering into the Indian Cinema as mainstream heroines. Each of them had very different and unique talent; they were not just drop dead gorgeous but were also extremely talented actresses and dancers. One such actress-dancer who till date rules our mind is the super talented Archana Joglekar.

Those of you who remember her will vouch for her flawless complexion, her beautiful light eyes, her extremely expressive face, and of course, her mesmerising talent of dance. Archana Joglekar is an Indian actress and a classical dancer who appeared in numerous Hindi, Marathi, Oriya, and Tamil films not just that she later even delved into television serials before leaving the Indian shores and settling in The United States of America.

She is a trained Kathak dancer and choreographer, who learns her unmatched craft from her mother Asha Joglekar, a renowned Kathak danseuse and Guru in her own right, who was also the disciple of Padmashree Gopi Kishan and Pandita Rohini Bhate.

On August 15, 1963, her mother founded a dance school in Mumbai called ‘Archana Nrityalaya’. In 1999, Archana Joglekar opened a branch of this dance school in New Jersey, USA, and till date is tirelessly working to make the Archana Joglekar 1 1 1Indian art forms popular in The United States of America. Students of Archana Arts are growing into fine dancers and winning various classical dance competitions with their qualitatively powerful presentations. Archana Ji’s exceptional teaching skills, ability to find the plus points in each student and enhancing that into the finer point of Kathak, personal attention and in-depth knowledge offered to every student in the institute are the contributing factors to making Archana Nrityalaya a highly reputed Kathak dance academy in the USA.

On my recent trip to The United States of America I had the good fortune of meeting this dynamic, full of life dance guru and together we had a hearty talk, while engrossed in our conversation the gorgeous dancer-actress laughed, got emotional and at the same time gracefully spoke of her dancing life away from the arch lights of cinema.

At the peak of your career, you moved away from films, what made you make that move?

I found the right man with whom I wanted to start a family and most importantly he unconditionally supported me for my dance. Dance for me is like oxygen, he totally understood that what more could I have asked for.

Do you miss the attention and the glamour that you were surrounded by when you were in India?

Film making is a beautiful process that made me who I am, it made me completely discover myself. Yes, I miss that creative part of cinema for sure. Not the glamour quotient, being a dancer I am often on stage, so the attention and glamour is still a part of my life (she laughs).

Archana Nrityalaya is considered one of the foremost Kathak dance school in the USA, please tell me more about it.

At my institute, we emphasise on perfection, riyaz, taiyyari in Tatkar, pandhant, command over the laykari, training the detailed nuances of Abhinaya along with in-depth knowledge of theory. At Archana Nrityalaya, a student learns Kathak as a complete style, blending the plus points of all three Gharanas – Lucknow, Jaipur, and Banaras. As powerful tatkar, chakri of Jaipur, nazakat and beauty of tourso movements, gat-nikas, finishes of the Pandita Archana Joglekartodas of Lucknow and powerful natwari bol of Banaras are all combined into a complete style in itself, created after endless hours of thoughtful input by my Mother and Guru Asha Joglekar.

Each year you organise various festivals in India and in The United States of America, what makes them all so unique?

Gandharva Festival is my way to pay tribute to my Guru who taught me all that I know and much more, at Gandharva we have a great blend of Gayan, Vachan, and Nritya, separately as well as all at the same time, legends like Pandit Birju Maharaj, Pandit Jasraj, Hari Prasad Chaurasiya and many more have been a part of this mark of respect which I hold each year for my Guru.

I also have Bal Kalakar Sangeet Samelan, a festival which is especially meant for the kids below 14 years of age and then there is Nav Gandharva Festival which is for the rising star dancers. These festivals are a doorway for new upcoming dancers to showcase their talent in The United States of America. I try my best to give every participant world-class facility and a platform to shine as bright as they can.

What difference do you see in students in India and the USA?

In India I see students give more time to dance, students dance daily or even a few days a week, whereas in the USA it is more of a weekend culture but I am known to be a sweet bad teacher, I often use modern technology and give face time lessons to the ones who show interest and there are many who are now attending class regularly.

Apart from teaching dance what kept you busy in the USA?

(She Laughs) My Son Dhruv, he kept me busy all the time, he is brilliant, I am not saying this because I am his mother but because he is a topper in studies and has the knowledge of Kathak, table, Tennis, chess and more. (Emotional) My Divorce from my husband Dr. Nirmal Mulye kept me busy too. (Laughs again) and finding a new partner through a dating site took up my time as well.

Life teaches us many lessons and we experience wonderful things in our journey. One thing was nice that being Archana Joglekar 1 1 2away from films allowed me to write and I have put together a few scripts. Right now ready with me is a romantic script, a high voltage family drama one, a story on real-life incidence and of course a dance film too.

So, do we see you direct a film soon? Who are your favourites in Bollywood today?

Yes, if I find the right person to produce it, for sure I would love to sit on the director’s chair. I would love to make my high voltage family drama film with Alia Bhatt, the real-life one with Shah Rukh Khan and the dance film with Katrina Kaif and mind you, though I am a choreographer too I would not choreography that film. I will ask Ganesh Acharya to plan all the moves for me because I think he is just brilliant and marvellous with his work.

Where do you see yourself in the next five year?

(She laughs) Holidaying and enjoying my life, like I always did. I never take life seriously, for me dance is life, I see myself dancing away happily with my students and if they not there, no worries, I can dance alone because Dance to me is Oxygen.

Pakistan should be paid in their own coin

pulwama 1Horrifying news from Pulwama! May the injustice be met with deserving treatment! May the families of the martyrs find the strength! May the country find enough reason to hope such incidents are averted and that the loss of the countrymen won’t go in vain! Black day in the valley and the country — more than 40 souls lost to misplaced passion. Will this ever end? It will never end sadly till a sword comes down on humanity.

So nicely thought about theory, however, the leaders of law and elders of society must get together to solve this problem. The youth is very easily moulded, thus creating a volatile atmosphere and revenge comes foremost in their minds. We can have many such discussions. End of the day mindless violence cannot be justified. Any law is valid only if reactions are commensurate with actions. The intelligence agency must have passed on the information in time and timely action taken to prevent such human loss and how come a private vehicle was allowed to go through the fleet of buses carrying CRPF men is a mystery.

Only proper secular education in society can solve this crime organised by anti-social elements in the name of religion. The Kashmiri youth is lured to this as a source of easy income. From the angle of the terrorists, it is their duty to fight against infidels to save Islam and Muslims in Kashmir. For them, it is the short cut to Heaven. But in the eyes of nationalists terrorism is a horrible crime of the traitors.

Indians need to get into their act and teach them a lesson. Our people and politicians should realise that we are Indians first. Once this is known to all the India baiters born and brought up in India then the world will sit up and stay quiet and not meddle in our affairs. Not taking name but some from India have the guts then tweet their thoughts on this incident.

The self-proclaimed involvement of Jaish-e-Mohammed in the attack raises serious questions about the role of the ISI in supporting the masterminds of this operation. Enough is enough we need not watch the happenings of Pakistan organised terror and attack terror base as we did at the time of the surgical strike. High time we taught a severe lesson by completely Isolating the terror-nation. We should stop all cultural, bilateral ties, no trade and commerce, transport and sports, no diplomatic relations, no peace talk, no photo-ops at the Taj Mahal and so on. To begin with, hit the nation where it would hurt. Cancel Indus water treaty and stop water supply and bleed Pakistan. It is time to teach terrorists, infiltrators, and the Pakistani government a lesson; it is a now or never situation and it is time to pay Pakistan in their own coin.

The terrorist attack, which has direct footprints inside Pakistan, poses the first major challenges to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan. By claiming such quick credit for the attack, Jaish-e-Mohammed is clearly indicating that they will continue to cause trouble in the region and stoke tensions between Pakistan and India. In the wake of this attack, there will likely be increased pressure on Prime Minister Modi to take action against all militant groups still active in Kashmir.

I think the damage to India-Pakistan relations is going to be immense even if the situation does not escalate. The hope was that India and Pakistan will get back to talking after the Indian elections later this year. Terrorist attacks as in Kashmir are not possible without an ideology or theology that justifies terrorism and brainwashes its followers that massacring others leads a person to paradise. The terrorist mindset must be removed along with the terrorist infrastructure on the ground.

While it is heartening to see that a wide swath of the international community is unequivocally condemning the attack, such statements of solidarity must be backed up by actions which help bring to an end the ability of such terrorist groups to kill with impunity and destabilise the region. There lies the real success.

PM Modi only capable to teach Pak a lesson

Pulwama blast that killed 44 innocent CRPF men comes as a shock. If there is one Prime Minister who is capable to teach Pakistan a lesson, it is undoubtedly Narendra Modi and Uri surgical strike is still fresh in our memories. However, surgical strike this time won’t help and we need to indulge in a full-fledged war with Pakistan to end this militancy business once for and all. The general elections scheduled for May should be postponed till the time we take revenge of the 44 innocent soldiers lost in J&K blast.

The political leaders, irrespective to the Parties they belong, should unite in this hour of need to teach Pakistan a lesson. Not sure if it would exist after the war but time for action than talks which serves no purpose. Citizens should stand behind PM Modi in whatever action he takes and Pakistan should pay the price for all the bloodshed they have been responsible for on our shores.

Better environmental sanitation only way to curb dengue

Dengue is a most dangerous disease and numbers of deaths are taking place in Mumbai and suburbs. There is a sense of concern, even panic, over the outbreak of Dengue in the Metro city and in several parts of the city, more so from Pune scares people throughout the year. From all over the state, more than 10,000 cases have been detected and treated in various government and private hospitals. Dengue is on the rise and 998 breeding spots have been identified in the city and 14 cases detected in this year. For a city like Mumbai, health care is of utmost importance and the hospitals will have to gear up well in advance to control the menace of mosquitoes.

Massive misuse of tax-free agricultural income

It is a known bitter fact also in knowledge of Income Tax Department that many ultra-rich personalities including leading politicians, celebrities in all fields including from film-industry and leading sports-persons misuse provision of tax-exemption on agricultural income by declaring their income from unaccounted sources as agricultural income by purchasing some agricultural land. Even names of such tax-evaders highlight on social media.

Central Board of Direct Taxes CBDT and central government should take note of the tax-evading tactics and exempt only some basic amount as tax-free agricultural income so that only really deserving small farmers may be kept out of Income Tax provisions. A study can be made for determining such tax-free limit for agricultural income. Income Tax cases of earlier years for ultra-rich persons having declared huge agricultural income should be re-opened for exposing such tax-evaders and recovery of tax-evaded in name of agricultural income.

Dawood gives a portion of his narco-money to Jihadist-Islamist groups — Part II

dawoodISI’s hands behind narco-trade:

The overall world production of heroin is centered in the narcostate of Afghanistan, which has the world’s largest opium poppy plantations, tightly controlled by the Taliban. Reliable statistics on world opium production do not include Pakistan as a major source of opium, plus opium grown in Pakistan is more expensive. Occupational military forces by the US have done very little to deter the opium farmers in Afghanistan, which experienced peak levels in 2017. The highest growth of opium poppies comes from the southern provinces of Afghanistan adjacent to the Pakistan border. For the manufacture of heroin, Afghanistan has the world monopoly of export grade heroin with over 500 estimated manufacturing facilities. Although the heroin from the historic seizure is said to originate from Pakistan, it was likely grown and manufactured in Afghanistan in the southern border provinces for cheap shipment into Pakistan for further distribution through a criminal network of Islamic gangs there. The area of Iran-Afghanistan-Pakistan is known as the Golden Crescent in the illegal opium drug trade.

Sri Lanka as a distribution hub in the world drug trade is a relatively new phenomenon, so there is not much-supporting data aside from some recent massive drug seizures. However, the expected shipping route is by water from the coast of Pakistan through the Arabian Sea to the busy port of Colombo. Major shipments of heroin are often transported through shipping containers and the heroin may change ships in the ocean after leaving the port in Pakistan, as one seizure from a Sri Lankan fishing boat revealed.

Pakistani spy agency Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) has been dealing in drugs and counterfeit Indian currency notes for many years, which is one of the main sources of ISI’s fund which goes to various jihadist and militancy groups. International known infamous drug cartel Dawood Ibrahim is one of the key operatives of ISI in running this nefarious trade throughout the world.

ISI buys heroin from the Afghanistan-based Taliban at a fixed rate, which is several folds lower than the international market price. Taliban prefer selling drugs to ISI instead of individual buyers as they get the payment in advance. After buying the consignment from Afghanistan, heroin in packs of 500 grams each is transported to Pakistan in military vehicles as well as vehicles of the Pakistani spy agency. In Pakistan, the consignments are handed over to Dawood Ibrahim’s men with specific instructions of how and where the sales proceeds should be distributed. Accordingly, Dawood Ibrahim’s D-Company men send the consignment to different nations and once the drugs are sold, cash received from the sale are distributed amongst various jihadist and militancy groups as per ISI’s directives.

More about Dawood Ibrahim

Dawood Ibrahim is the notorious godfather of illegal drug dealings and is Number 3 on the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted List since 2011 as the mastermind of the 1993 Mumbai bombings which killed 257 people and injured 1400. He has links with Al Qaeda, AQIS, Lashkar e Toiba, Jamaat e Islami as well as other jihadist and Islamist outfits in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. Dawood also maintains links with Philippine’s Abu Sayyaf militancy group.

For many years, Dawood Ibrahim has been living in Karachi, Pakistan under the direct assistance of ISI. In Karachi, he has properties and investments worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Sitting in Pakistan, Dawood Ibrahim, as per directives of ISI, operates global drug trade as well as distributes fund to several jihadist and militancy outfits. He also has investments in the Indian film industry.

According to newspaper reports, Dawood Ibrahim had provided the fund to the 2008-Mumbai terror attackers while has financed Islamic terror in the Gujarat region through L-e-T, being a large terror group centered in Pakistan. In 2003, Dawood Ibrahim was declared a global terrorist by the US and Indian governments. From 2017, as per directives from ISI, Dawood Ibrahim has started providing a fund to Jamaat e Islami’s chapters in India and Bangladesh.

A nexus of ISI-Dawood:

Dawood Ibrahim has established a small group of individuals from Bangladesh (mostly females) who are responsible in overseeing the trafficking of narcotics from Pakistan to Sri Lanka and the coordinate sending the consignments to several Western destinations. Dhaka’s largest vernacular daily Prothom Alo has already revealed the name of one of the key aides of ISI-Dawood nexus in Bangladesh. A Bangladeshi female named Shahina Akhter is one of the key figures of the nexus in Bangladesh. She coordinates with another Bangladeshi living in Australia for ensuring smooth transportation of narcotics to various countries in the West.

ISI-Dawood’s joint mission:

According to information, Pakistani ISI has decided to place at least two billion dollars towards militancy in India, China, and Bangladesh with the dangerous agenda of staging a series of terrorist attacks. ISI has been asking several jihadist outfits to devastate China, India, and Bangladesh at any cost.

Sidhu condemns Pulwama attack, asks if entire nation can be blamed for handful of people

sidhu
Strongly condemning the “cowardly” attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama by a Pakistan-based terror group in which 40 CRPF soldiers were killed, Punjab Cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu on Friday asked whether an entire nation can be blamed for a handful of people.

Forty CRPF personnel were killed and five injured on Thursday in one of the deadliest terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir when a Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad suicide bomber rammed a vehicle carrying over 100 kg of explosives into their bus in Pulwama district.

The cricketer-turned-politician, who was among the invitees for the swearing in ceremony of Imran Khan as Pakistan prime minister last year, however posed, “For a handful of people, can you blame the entire nation and can you blame an individual?”

Talking to reporters after the Punjab Assembly was adjourned for the day in solidarity with the CRPF soldiers killed in the terror attack, Sidhu said, “It (the attack) is a cowardly act and I condemn it firmly. Violence is always condemnable and those who did it must be punished.”

The Punjab Assembly on Friday strongly condemned the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed and passed a resolution for adjournment of the proceedings of the House for the day.

More than 2,500 Central Reserve Police Force personnel, many of them returning from leave to rejoin duty in the Valley, were travelling in the convoy of 78 vehicles when they were ambushed on the Srinagar-Jammu highway at Latoomode in Awantipora in south Kashmir around 3.15 pm.

The Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terror group has claimed the responsibility for the attack that took place about 20 km from Srinagar.

China again says no to back India’s bid to list JeM chief Azhar as global terrorist by UN

china again blocks indias bid to ban jem chief masood azharChina on Friday condemned the Pulwama terror attack carried out by a Jaish suicide bomber but once again declined to back India’s appeal to list the Pakistan-based terror group’s chief Masood Azhar as a global terrorist by the UN.

At least 40 CRPF personnel were killed and five injured on Thursday in one of the deadliest terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir when a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) suicide bomber rammed a vehicle carrying over 100 kg of explosives into their bus in Pulwama district.

China has noted that the reports of suicide terrorist attack. “We are deeply shocked by this attack. We express deep condolences and sympathy to the injured and bereaved families. We firmly oppose and strongly condemn all forms of terrorism. We hope relevant regional countries will cooperate to cope with the threat of terrorism and jointly uphold regional peace and stability,” spokesman of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Geng Shuang told a media briefing.

When asked about China’s stand on the listing of Azhar as a global terrorist by the UN Security Council, he said: “As for the issue of listing, I could tell you that the 1267 Committee of Security Council has a clear stipulation on the listing and procedure of the terrorist organisations”.

“JeM has been included in the Security Council terrorism sanctions list. China will continue to handle the relevant sanctions issue in a constructive and responsible manner,” he said in an apparent reference to External Affairs Ministry’s appeal to all members of the UN Security Council to list Azhar as a global terrorist.

China, a veto-wielding member of the UNSC and a close ally of Pakistan, has repeatedly foiled India’s bid to list Azhar as a global terrorist, saying that there is no consensus in the top organ of the world body on this issue

Kejriwal and Azad settle in HC defamation row with DDCA

Kejriwal and azadDelhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and cricketer-turned-MP Kirti Azad on Friday told the Delhi High Court that they were settling the defamation row with cricketing body DDCA.

Both Kejriwal and suspended BJP MP Azad told Justice R S Endlaw that they were withdrawing the allegedly defamatory statements made against cricketing body DDCA, which in turn told the court that it was withdrawing its Rs 5 crore defamation suit against them. Taking note of the submissions, the court disposed of DDCA’s defamation suit.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Kejriwal’ lawyer, Anupam Shrivastava, handed over in court to the DDCA counsel, Pradeep Chhindra, a letter stating that the statements regarding functioning and finances of the cricketing body have been withdrawn. Vande Bharat Express flags off by PM Modi

modi vande train
India’s first semi-high speed train, the Vande Bharat Express, was flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday from the New Delhi Railway Station amid sombre mood in the backdrop of the terror attack in Pulwama. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and members of the Railway Board were present on the occasion and will be on board the train on its inaugural journey

“I am grateful to designers and engineers behind Vande Bharat Express which will take its first trip from Delhi to Varanasi today. With our sincerity and hardwork in the last 4.5 years we have tried to improve railways,” the PM said.

The train will travel from Delhi to Varanasi in nine hours and forty-five minutes. This includes stoppage time of 40 minutes each at Kanpur and Allahabad where there will be special programmes. The PM inspected the train and said that he was proud that such a train had been produced indigenously at the Integral Coach Factory, Chennai in 18 months.

The semi-high speed Train 18, which has been recently rechristened Vande Bharat Express, can run up to a maximum speed of 160 kmph and has travel classes like Shatabdi trains but with better facilities. It aims to provide a totally new travel experience to passengers. The bookings for the train have begun and it will run commercially from February 17 from Delhi to Varanasi five days a week.

It has 16 air-conditioned coaches of which two are executive class. The total seating capacity is 1,128 passengers. It is much more than the conventional Shatabdi rakes of equal number of coaches, thanks to shifting of all electric equipment below the coaches and seats in the driving coach also.

All coaches are equipped with automatic doors, GPS-based audio-visual passenger information system, on-board hotspot WiFi for entertainment purposes and very comfortable seating. All toilets are bio-vacuum type. The lighting is dual mode, that is diffused for general illumination and personal for every seat.

Every coach has a pantry facility to serve hot meals and, hot and cold beverages. The insulation is meant to keep heat and noise to very low levels for additional passenger comfort. ‘Unless Pak is wiped out, peace won’t be attained in South Asia’: Exiled Sindhi activist condemns Pulwama attack

Pulwama, Terrorist Attack, Shafi Burfat, Exciled Sindhi, Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan, Pak Terrorist

Exiled Sindhi political activist Shafi Burfat condemned the barbaric terror attack on a CRPF convoy that claimed the lives of about 40 security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district and accused Pakistan of sponsoring and exporting terrorism in both India and Afghanistan.

Pakistan-backed Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was carried out by a suicide bomber, according to a local news agency.

In a strong-worded statement, Burfat, who is the chairman of Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz (JSMM), said that the international community must acknowledge the fact that unless Pakistan is “not eradicated from the face of Earth”, the establishment of global peace and security in South Asia will never be attained.

“The foundations of Pakistan are rooted in radical Islamism and it has been a source of extremist Islamist terrorism since its beginning. Pakistan has been the mastermind and exporter of terrorism in India and Afghanistan and nourishing global jihadists for decades. It is not only a constant threat to global security and regional peace but simultaneously, has subjugated Sindhis, Pashtuns and Baloch people by force and imposed political hegemony, economic terrorism and fascist genocide upon these communities,” he added.

Continuing his tirade against Pakistan, Burfat appealed to the international community, including the United Nations to “disintegrate” Pakistan so that global security, world peace and regional stability will be restored.

He further said that Pakistan’s disintegration “is the only solution to the problem to religious extremism and terrorism in the region and the world.”

In the deadliest terror attack on security forces in Kashmir, 40 CRPF personnel lost their lives when their convoy was targetted in Pulwama district on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway. The convoy comprised 78 buses in which around 2,500 personnel were travelling from Jammu to Srinagar.

A bus, in which 42 CRPF personnel were travelling, was extensively damaged in the blast which was followed by firing on the vehicle.
