The Jabalpur Police have registered an FIR against five people, including four doctors, in the Jabalpur Hospital fire incident that left at least nine persons dead, police said on Tuesday.
Superintendent of Police Akhilesh Gaur told agencies that the FIR was registered against five people in the connection with the hospital fire incident. The manager of New Life Multi-Speciality Hospital, identified as Ram Soni and four doctors: Dr Nishit Gupta, Dr Suresh Patel, Dr Sanjay Patel and Dr Santosh S have been charged under sections 304, 308, 334 of the Indian Penal Code. The sections pertaining to causing death and hurt through negligence.
“The premise of the hospital has been sealed and evidence is being technically analysed. We have got video records also that have been sent to the cyber team,” he further said.
At least nine people were killed in a massive fire at a private hospital in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur on Monday, officials said. Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Chouhan announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the nearest kin of the deceased.
“In this hour of grief, the bereaved families should not consider themselves alone, I and entire Madhya Pradesh are with the families. The state government will provide assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50 thousand each to the seriously injured. The government will also bear the cost of complete treatment of the injured,” the CM said in a tweet.
The Chief Minister further said that local administration and collector have been directed to keep an eye on the entire matter. Siddharth Bahaguna, Jabalpur SP said that around 9-10 people lost their lives in the fire that broke out due to a short circuit.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed condolences to the families of the persons who died in the blaze.
“Anguished by the loss of lives due to a fire at a hospital in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. Condolences to the bereaved families. I hope the injured recover at the earliest. The local administration is providing all assistance to those affected: PM @narendramodi,” tweeted the Prime Minister’s Office.

The Union Government on Tuesday informed that it has decided to fill up the existing vacancies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Assam Rifles by December 2023.
“There were a total of 84,659 vacancies in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Assam Rifles till July 31, 2022, and the government has decided to fill up existing vacancies by December 2023,” Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai told the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
Of the total, a maximum of 27,510 vacancies are noted in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) followed by 23,435 vacancies in Border Security Force (BSF), 11,765 in Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), 11,143 in Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), 6,044 in Assam Rifles, 4,762 in Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), said the Minister while giving a written reply to a query of three Lok Sabha members.
As per the instructions of the Department of Personnel and Training issued vide notification dated October 4, 2012, Rai said, “10 per cent vacancies in Central Armed Police Forces and Assam Rifles are reserved for ex-servicemen up to the level of Assistant Commandant to be filled by direct recruitment”.
Further, Rai said, in-principle approval has been given for reservation of 10 per cent of vacancies for ex-Agniveers in the recruitment to the post of Constable (General Duty) and Rifleman in the CAPF and Assam Rifles when the first batch of ex-Agniveers is available for recruitment after completing engagement period of four years in defence forces.
“The government has taken a decision to fill up existing vacancies in CAPFs and Assam Rifles by December 2023,” Rai said. He further stated that the examination for filling up of 25,271 posts of Constable (General Duty) has already been conducted.
To fill up the vacancies expeditiously in CAPFs and Assam Rifles, the Minister said the government has taken several steps like yearly recruitment for the post of Constable (General Duty) for which a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with Staff Selection Commission (SSC).
For coordinating recruitment to General Duty posts, a Nodal Force each for recruitment in the rank of Constable (General Duty), Sub-Inspector (GD) and Assistant Commandant (General Duty) has been nominated on long-term basis, said Rai.
He said that directions have been issued to all CAPFs and Assam Rifles to undertake recruitment against vacant posts in Non-General Duty cadres in a time-bound manner.
It is also directed for conducting timely meetings of the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) for filling up promotional vacancies, added the Minister.

Developing and enhancing marine connectivity and interconnections are crucial elements of the BRI. The “String of Pearls” is another significant theatrical strategy of Beijing.
By making investments in geopolitically significant ports from Sudan to Hong Kong, China is dominating vital choke points in the Indian Ocean region.

The Mumbai Police probing the criminal intimidation case against Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut is awaiting the original audio recorded by the woman complainant and will submit it to the forensic science laboratory in Kalina to identify the caller, an official said on Tuesday.
A First Information Report (FIR) was registered against Raut on Sunday under various sections of the Indian Penal Code including insulting the modesty of the woman on a complaint lodged by a witness in a money laundering case being probed by the Enforcement Directorate, claiming she was threatened. Seven youths from Banur in SAS Nagar district of Punjab died after drowning in the Gobind Sagar lake over the Satluj river in Androuli village of Bangana subdivision on Monday.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police Parveen Dhiman, the deceased have been identified as Pawan Kumar (35), son of Surjit, Raman Kumar (19), son of Lal Chand, Labh Singh (17), son of Lal Chand, Lakhbir Singh (16), son of Ramesh Kumar, Arun Kumar (14), son of Ramesh Kumar, Vishal Kumar (18), son of Basu, and Shiva Kumar (16), son of Avtar Kumar.
Chief Minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Mann, has offered condolences to the families of the deceased. “On the way to Baba Balak Nath, we got the sad news of the drowning of 7 youths from Banur from Punjab who stopped to bathe in the Gobind Sagar Lake… I express my heartfelt sympathy to the families… Prayers to God… May the departed souls rest in peace. Condolences to the families. Giving strength to believe…,” said Bhagwant Mann in a tweet.
Speaker of Punjab Legislative Assembly, Kultar Singh Sandhawan also consoled the families, saying in a tweet, “The death of 7 youths from Punjab in the Gobind Sagar Lake of Una district of Himachal has deeply shocked the mind. I share the grief with the families of the deceased youths and hope that such unfortunate incidents will not happen in the future don’t happen.”
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur took to Twitter to share their grief. “The news that seven people died due to drowning in Gobind Sagar lake in Andoroli of Una district is extremely sad. May God place the departed souls at his feet and give strength to the bereaved family members. Peace!,” Thakur said.

A container truck loaded with chemicals overturned on busy Ghodbunder road near Thane this morning resulting in a huge traffic jam, officials said.
After the incident took place, a container with the chemical- hydrogen peroxide- leaked on the road, emitting a foul odour. The truck was carrying 23,000 liters of hydrogen peroxide in 20 tanks from Gujarat to Navaha Sheva when it overturned near the Gaimukh creek at around 7:15 AM.
The driver was injured in the incident and taken to a hospital.
Fire brigade personnel and a team of RDMC rushed to the spot and are trying to haul the tilted container back into the straight position, the official said.
“There are no cases of anyone affected due to the chemical leak,” he added.
Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday at the Hyderabad House here during his four-day visit to India.
Solih arrived in India at the invitation of PM Modi and both the leaders are expected to review the progress in the wide-ranging partnership between the two countries.
He is accompanied by a high-level official and business delegation.

The Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday carried out searches at multiple locations in the national capital and other places in the alleged National Herald money laundering case.
The National Herald case pertains to investigating the alleged financial irregularities under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), which was registered about nine months ago after a trial court took cognizance of the Income Tax department probe carried out on the basis of a private criminal complaint filed by former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Subramanian Swamy in 2013.
The petitioner had approached the court alleging that the assets of Associated Journals Limited (AJL), which published the National Herald newspaper, were fraudulently acquired and transferred to Young Indian Pvt Limited (YIL), in which Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi owned 38 per cent shares each.
The YIL promoters include Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. Swamy had alleged that the Gandhis cheated and misappropriated funds, with YIL paying only Rs 50 lakh to obtain the right to recover Rs 90.25 crore that AJL owed to Congress.
Two minors lost their lives after their house collapsed following a landslide in the Parvathamukhi village in Dakshina Kannada district.
Dakshina Kannada SP Rishikesh Sonawane said that their bodies were recovered on Monday. The landslide was reported due to heavy rainfall in the state.
“The bodies of two minor girls were recovered by NDMF and SDMF personnel,” SP Rishikesh Sonawane. Earlier on July 7, three people died after a landslide in the DK district.
Due to heavy rainfall, severe water-logging, inundatiion on parts of a highway, agricultural fields and low-lying areas, life has been disturbed across the state. Bhatkal town in Uttara Kannada district has also been affected badly for the last two weeks.
Indian Meteorological Department has issued a ‘heavy rains’ alert for the coastal Karnataka region and north Interior Karnataka till August 6.
The IMD on Sunday in its weather forecast issued an orange alert for August 2 for the districts of Kodagu, Hassan, Chikmagalur, and Shimoga. For 3rd August, an alert has been issued for Uttar Kannada, Shimoga, Udupi, Chikmagalur, Hassan, Dakshin Kannada, and Kodagu.
“Avoid going to areas that face water logging problems often. Avoid staying in vulnerable structures,” the MeT department said in a press release.
In a detailed weather update, the department today said that fairly widespread to heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning was very likely over coastal and north interior Karnataka from 2-4 August.
According to the district administration, which declared a holiday for all schools, anganwadis, and colleges in Sullia and Kadaba taluks on Tuesday, the situation was pretty bad in many villages of the two taluks.
