The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Sunday detained Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut in Patra Chawl land scam case in Mumbai after hours of conducting raids at his residence.

The action follows two summonses issued by the ED against Raut, the latest being on July 27.

Raut was summoned for questioning by the ED in a money laundering case linked to the alleged irregularities in the re-development of a Mumbai ‘chawl’ and related transactions involving his wife and ‘associates’. He had appeared before the agency in Mumbai to record his statement on July 1 in connection with the case. After that, the ED had summoned him twice, but he skipped the summonses citing his engagement with the ongoing Parliament session. At 7 am on Sunday, ED officials, accompanied by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, reached Raut’s ‘Maitri’ bungalow located in suburban Bhandup, and began the search.

The Rajya Sabha member, who is in the Uddhav Thackeray camp of the Shiv Sena, had denied any wrongdoing and alleged that he was being targeted due to political vendetta.

”I swear by late Balasabheb Thackeray that I have nothing to do with any scam,” Raut tweeted shortly after the ED action began. ”I will die but won’t leave Shiv Sena,” Raut added.

During the ED search, a large number of Shiv Sena supporters gathered outside Raut’s residence and staged protests against the agency’s action. Holding safron flags and banners in their hands, the Sena MP’s supporters also raised slogans against the ED. Raut waved at his supporters from the window of his house.

At the ED office located in Ballard Estate area of south Mumbai, a large number of police have been deployed, an official said. Roads leading to the agency office have been kept shut for vehicles and barricades have been placed, he said.

The Indian rupee has fallen to a historic low

It is important to note that the Indian rupee is losing value versus the dollar on a daily basis, which is causing a lot of concern in corporate circles. In the post-Covid world of 2022, the value of INR has consistently fallen against the dollar. It is crucial to realize that the Indian Rupee has been losing value against the dollar for a long time. Financial analysts have predicted that if depreciation continues, the Indian rupee may go below the 81 units per dollar threshold before the year is over. One of the main causes of this is rising inflation, which is having an impact on the Indian economy.

An online survey reveals that the majority of respondents think rupee devaluation will negatively affect their ability to purchase goods and services, even if the value of the Indian rupee against the U.S. dollar reached a record low at 80 to USD 1.

In the foreign exchange market, a decline in the rupee’s value relative to the dollar signals a weakening of the rupee. The depreciation also impacts the imports by making them more costly. As a result, India will be required to pay more when importing goods from the United States or any other nation because the payment is made in dollars, meaning that less expensive imports would cost more. It has become more expensive for Indian citizens to travel abroad, study at foreign universities, buy fuel, and purchase basic necessities.

Additionally, a falling rupee would have a negative effect on them and their families due to rising food, medication, and healthcare expenditures and negatively hurt their quality of life. A prompt decision is required to stop the rapidly deteriorating economic situation and the fast depreciation of the rupee against the dollar. To remove the “installed system,” actions would be taken on a war-footing basis.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday said the allocation of ministries for state Cabinet formation will be decided as soon as possible. He said that he and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis are working on the growth of the state.

While talking about raids conducted at Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut’s residence, he said, “The investigation is underway. If he hasn’t done anything wrong, why is he scared? He was a big MVA leader. Just because one’s scared of the ED, one shouldn’t come to our party.”

“ED also conducted investigations earlier. If ED works under the fear of the Central govt then the Supreme Court should take action on this. ED is doing their work,” he added.

He announced a cash reward of Rs 37 lakh to Sanket Sargar who won a silver medal in the Commonwealth Games 2022. “Sanket Sargar is from a poor family, hence we are giving him Rs 30 lakh and for education, we are giving them Rs 7 lakh from the state government,” said Shinde in a press conference.

While talking about the Marathwada suicides, Shinde, “Overall Marathwada suicides are not happening we assure that. In this meeting, we discuss this too. State banks, District banks and Central banks must give them loans with less interest.”

“Mid-term, long term and short-term plans we will discuss in this meeting for farmers,” he added.

On the Nanded-Jalna highway, he said “it must be developed, it will be helping people for travelling. The municipal corporation has issues, we are also working on this.”

On Balasaheb Thackeray statue, he said, “we will it build as soon as possible. I gave an order on this to complete this work as soon as possible.”

After the silver of Sanket Sargar in the 55kg weightlifting event, Gururaja Poojary settled for bronze in the 61kg event, at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, on July 30, 2022.

Gururaja Poojary was leading the table after the lift of 148 kg in the second clean and jerk attempt. In the third attempt, Gururaja Poojary confirmed India a medal. US President Joe Biden interacted with veterans who are camping out at the Capitol building and protesting for the Burn Pit Bill to expand care for veterans with burn pit injuries, through FaceTime and sent them pizza.

Biden said that he planned a trip to Capitol Hill to meet the families fighting to pass burn pits legislation, however, he had to cancel after testing positive for COVID-19, The Hill Newspaper reported.

“I planned an unscheduled trip to Capitol Hill this afternoon to meet the families fighting to pass burn pits legislation. A positive COVID test got in the way, but I want to thank @SecVetAffairs for bringing pizza in my place and connecting me with the families via FaceTime,” the US President said in a tweet. Biden tested positive for COVID-19 again on Saturday.

Earlier, he tested positive for COVID-19 on July 21 and was under treatment for around a week. The pizza was delivered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs Denis McDonough. “Proud to bring pizza from @POTUS to the Vets camping out at the Capitol until the Senate passes the PACT Act,” McDonough said in a tweet.

“These heroes fought for our country–they shouldn’t have to fight for health care, too. The Senate must pass the PACT Act now,” the tweet added.

During FaceTime, the US President said that the country has a “sacred obligation” to care for those who go into war and care for them and their families after they return, the publication said.

Opposing the legislation is “despicable,” Biden said adding that the bill’s opponents are “going to make up for the mistake they made.” The Senate carried out the voting for the bill on Wednesday, however, the bill only received 55 votes.

A minimum of 60 votes are required to pass the bill. During the voting, three senators were absent.

Meanwhile, all Democrats along with eight Republicans voted in favor of the bill. US Senator Chuck Schumer on Thursday said that he plans to bring the bill up for a vote again on Monday.

Biden has been focused on expanding benefits for veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan and were exposed to toxic chemicals from burn pits and has always called it a “sacred obligation” to prepare those serving in the armed forces and to care for them and their families when they return home.

The issue of burn pits strikes a personal note for the president who believes related chemicals may have contributed to the brain cancer that ultimately killed his son, Beau Biden, The Hill reported. Earlier, in June, Biden signed a bill to provide better access to mammograms for veterans exposed to burn pits as part of nine bills signed into law aimed to improve veterans’ health care.

'Yoga For Super Immunity' by Bijoylaxmi Hota 6

The COVID-19 crisis has dramatically changed how we work and also changed how we exercise and stay fit. As a form of exercise that can be easily practised even in a small enclosed space, Yoga has found new converts during the pandemic. Yoga played an essential role in everyone’s life as gyms were closed; runners and cyclists had no option.

Historically, Yoga was more than just a method of physical exercise as it is now being propagated; it was a way of life. Yoga, which originated in India and has been part of Indian civilization for millennia, is a practice that aligns our mind, body, and spirit and enhances mental clarity.

Everyone has dedicated themselves to a lifestyle and culture that surpasses meditation techniques and includes healthy eating habits, bathing habits, social interaction, and work. But the fundamental importance of the existence of life and its unison with the soul is often possible only through yoga illustrations in everyone’s life. Also, the theory of immunity to fight the virus gave Yoga a face shift. In this connection, from food to lifestyle, changes have been embraced by people worldwide.

The chapter Immunity Boosting Sleep says sound sleep for 6 to 8 hours at night is essential for good health because it is during such sleep when most functions of the body shut down, that the brain is free to give its full attention to assess the wear and tear of the system and repair the worn-out cells properly. Natural sleep has become a rarity in today’s world. Medicated sleep does not provide proper rejuvenation. A link is formed between the mind, the brain and the corresponding body part which is seen to have a relaxing and rejuvenating effect on them all. The writing is simple, straightforward and very intriguing. Yoga mudras are well depicted and if it is taken up with interest one can really benefit and enjoy the essence of life.

A special court on Saturday sentenced five people to seven years jail term for rigging a Pre-Medical Test (PMT) conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board in 2009, known by its Hindi acronym Vyapam.

CBI Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Ranjan Sharma said that in the year 2009, Sanyogita Ganj police had registered a case of cheating against six people during the PMT examination. In the examination, 2 students had sent two other people to take the examination in their place.

The accused are identified as Ravindra Dulawat, Satyapal Kustawar, Ashish Uttam, Shailendra Kumar and Sanjay Dulawat. The court of Additional Sessions Judge (CBI) Sanjay Kumar Gupta convicted Shailendra Kumar, Satyapal Kastawar, Ashish Uttam, Ravindra Dulawat, Dr Sanjay Dulawat, and Rampriya Das under sections 419, 420, 471, 467, 468, of Indian Penal Code and Madhya Pradesh Examination Recognition Act provisions.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each on them. CBI Special Public Prosecutor further said that the court found the five guilty after examining 70 witnesses.

“Shailendra Kumar was found giving the examination in place of Satyapal Kustawar, a student of MGM Medical College and in place of Ravindra Dulawat, Ashish was giving the best exam. Both of them were approached by middleman Dr Sanjay Dulawat and Rampriya Das,” said Ranjan Sharma.

After the Vyapam scam came to light in 2009, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed in this case, as the investigation progressed, the cases went on increasing and the CBI had taken over the investigation following a Supreme Court order in 2016.

The court however acquitted Rampriya Das because of a lack of evidence against him, he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his monthly ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address on Sunday requested people to visit railway stations of historical importance — especially those related to the Indian freedom movement.

Through an initiative named ‘Azadi Ki Railgadi Aur Railway Station’, the objective is to make people know the role of Indian Railways in the freedom struggle.

“There are many such railway stations in the country, which are associated with the history of the freedom movement. You too will be surprised to know about these railway stations,” the Prime Minister said in the 91st edition of Mann Ki Baat.

Those 75 stations are being specially decked up and several events are also being organized at such locations as part of celebration of 75th year of India’s Independence.

He further requested teachers of nearby schools to visit such stations and narrate the incidents and explain the relevance to the students. “You must also find time to visit such historic stations near your place, you will come to know in detail about such aspects of the freedom movement which you were not aware of.”

Talking about Gomoh Junction in Jharkhand, he said the station is now officially known as Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Junction Gomoh as Netaji Subhash at this very station was successful in dodging British officers by boarding the Kalka Mail.

“All of you must have heard the name of Kakori Railway Station near Lucknow. The names of bravehearts like Ram Prasad Bismil and Ashfaq Ullah Khan are associated with this station. The brave revolutionaries had displayed their might to the British by looting the treasury of the British being carried by train,” he said.

Further, about Vanchi Maniyachchi Junction in Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu, he reminded people that the station was named after Tamil freedom fighter Vanchinathan who at 25 years of age had punished one British collector for his actions.

“Friends, this list is pretty long. 75 such railway stations have been identified spread over 24 states across the country. These 75 stations are being decorated very ornately. Many types of programs are also being organized in these. You should also take out time to visit one such historical station in your vicinity,” Modi said.

Speaking about the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ initiative, he asked people to further the movement by hoisting the National Flag at their homes during August 13-15. “Tricolour connects us, inspires us to do something for the country,” he added.

Further, he suggested people keep the National Flag as their social media profile pictures during August 2-15. August 2 has a special significance as it is the birth anniversary of the designer of the Indian National Flag Pingali Venkaiah.

ED team raids Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut’s residence after he skips summons twice

Right after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) team reached Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut’s residence in Mumbai on Sunday morning in connection with a money laundering case, Raut lashed out at the Centre, saying that “Maharashtra and Shiv Sena will continue to fight” and denied having any role in the case. “Maharashtra and Shiv Sena will continue to fight,” tweeted Raut in Marathi today morning. “False action. False evidence. I will not leave Shiv Sena. Even if I die, I will not surrender. Jai Maharashtra,” the tweet read.

In a flurry of tweets, Raut asserted that he won’t quit the Shiv Sena and keep on fighting amid the ED action against him.

“I have nothing to do with any scam. I am saying this by taking the oath of Shiv Sena chief Balasaheb Thackeray. Balasaheb taught us how to fight. I will continue to fight for Shiv Sena,” said Raut in a tweet. The series of tweets further read, “Long live Shiv Sena!!! Will keep fighting..”

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) team reached Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut’s residence in Mumbai on Sunday morning.

Raut is being investigated by the ED in connection with a money laundering case linked to alleged irregularities involving the re-development of a Mumbai ‘chawl.’

Meanwhile, supporters of Raut gathered outside his residence, raising slogans against the ED and BJP.

On June 28 this year, Raut was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the money laundering case pertaining to the Rs 1,034 crore Patra Chawl land scam.

Refusing to join the probe and citing the Monsoon Session of Parliament as a reason for not joining the probe, he had then dared the probe agency to arrest him. Later, he reached the ED office.

The ED, which took Pune-based businessman Avinash Bhosale into custody earlier in connection with the DHFL-Yes Bank case, wants to grill Raut in this matter too, as per sources.

They claim that the Patra Chawl case is also linked to the DHFL case. In April, the ED provisionally attached assets worth over Rs 11.15 crore of Raut’s wife Varsha Raut and two of his associates as part of this investigation.

The attached properties are in the form of land held by Pravin M Raut, Sanjay Raut’s aide and a former director of Guru Ashish Construction Pvt Ltd, at Palghar, Saphale (town in Palghar) and Padgha (in Thane district).

The attached properties also include a flat in Mumbai’s suburb Dadar held by Varsha Raut and eight plots at Kihim beach in Alibaug jointly held by Varsha Raut and Swapna Patkar, wife of Sujit Patkar, the ED said in a statement.

According to the ED, Sujit Patkar is a close associate of Sanjay Raut. After arresting Pravin Raut in February, the ED had said he appears to be “acting as a front” or in collusion with some influential person(s).

The agency had said during the probe it was revealed he made payments to certain “politically exposed persons”. The investigative agency is probing the matter.
