A 52-year-old man was found murdered in an apartment in Mumbra area of Maharashtra’s Thane district, police said on Tuesday.
The victim, Abdul Haque Zakir Ali Sayyed, was found dead in his apartment in Kausa area of Mumbra on Monday morning, inspector Babasaheb Nikam of Mumbra police station said.
An offence under section 302 (murder) and other relevant provisions of the IPC has been registered against the unidentified accused, he said. Some unidentified persons slit the victim’s wrists and throat and placed the bloodstained knife in his hand to make it appear like a suicide, the official said.
The victim’s son informed the police about the death, following which the body was sent for post-mortem and a probe is underway, he added.
On Tuesday Former Himachal Pradesh BJP president Khimi Ram joined the congress party. Ram who is also the Deputy speaker for the state said to PTI stating that “he takes pride in joining the party that helped the country to attain freedom.
While welcoming the congress party in Himachal Pradesh Rajiv Shukla the AICC in-charge quoted to PTI stating “It is an indication of the winds blowing in the state”.
The BJP president Khimi Ram has also served as MLA twice from the Banjar assembly constituency of Kullu district from 2003 to 2012. In the past , the has served as Deputy Speaker of Vidhan Sabha of Himachal Pradesh in 2007 and later was elected as BJP chief of Himachal Pradesh.
As per the report BJP President Ram stated to PTI “ I am not joining the Congress out of any towards the BJP. I have taken a well-thought-out decision to take the Congress forward in Himachal Pradesh”.
Ram said that “ He is confident that the Congress will be able to form the government in the state as there is a lot of corruption, unemployment, inflation and pending employee issues including those related to the pension scheme” the statements as mentioned to PTI.
In a report mentioned to PTI Ram said “ We will bring these issues before the people of the state and help to form the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh”. While welcoming the Ram in the congress others were also present on the occasion including AICC Secretaries Sudhir Sharma and Tejinder Bittu.
In Maharashtra’s city at Rabodi area in Thane on Tuesday a portion of the house has been collapsed in which no one was injured or any casualties were reported as per the officials who reported the incident.
In a report quoted to PTI by Avinash Sawant who is the Chief of the regional disaster management cell (RDMC) of the Thane Municipal Corporation said “The incident took place at the Rehmat Nagar locality of Rabodi in the afternoon”.
“Local fireman and a team of the RDMC rushed to the spot and provided assistance after a portion of the single-story structure collapsed” as mentioned to PTI. He also stated, “ Occupants of the house were evacuated and shifted to a safer accommodation”.
In Thane, the city has received 99.77 mm of rain in 24 hours which ended at 8:30 in the morning and the total rainfall was 987.94 mm. The region received 1271.96 mm at the same in the last season as per the officials mentioned in the PTI report.

A cycling expedition from Siachen War Memorial in Ladakh was flagged off on Tuesday to pay homage to the martyrs of the Kargil War.
According to the Indian Army officials, the said expedition will culminate at Kargil war Memorial on July 23 and Sura-Soi Engineer Regiment was also taking part in it.
“A cycling expedition from Siachen War Memorial to Kargil War Memorial was flagged off today to pay homage to the martyrs of Kargil War. Sura-Soi Engineer Regiment is taking part in the expedition which will culminate on July 23 July at Kargil War Memorial,” said the Indian Army officials.
Earlier on July 2, a 20-member team of Indian Army and Indian Air Force led by the women officers from Delhi to Drass valley in the Kargil district of Ladakh set off on a cycling expedition to commemorate India’s 75 years of Independence.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the expedition was flagged off jointly by Lieutenant General MU Nair, Signal Officer-in-Chief and Senior Colonel Commandant, Corps of Signals and Air Marshal R Radhish, Senior Air Staff Officer, Western Air Command from National War Memorial in New Delhi.
These cyclists were tasked to cover 1,600 km in 24 days, which would be culminating at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass on July 25 to commemorate a fitting tribute to the brave martyrs who made the supreme sacrifice during the Kargil War.
The expedition was aimed at bolstering the energy of the young Indians towards nationalism as the cyclists were expected to interact with school children at various stages enroute. They would be acting as a beacon to channelise the immeasurable enthusiasm and zeal of the future leaders of the country.
The July 2 team of cyclists was led by Major Srishti Sharma of the Corps of Signals– a second-generation officer– who was awarded the Chief of Integrated Staff Commendation Card in 2019 for her contribution to various technical-based intelligence operations.
Flagging in of the team at Drass was carried out by Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi and General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Northern Command.
Man sentenced for 10 years RI for kidnapping and assaulting a minor 9
A special court here sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl in Maharashtra’s Thane district.
Special judge V V Virkar on Monday convicted the accused Sajad Aslam Kankali (26) of charges under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The judge sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 13,000 on him. Special public prosecutor Rekha Hiwrale informed the court that the accused and the victim lived in the same colony.
On December 5, 2015, the accused abducted the victim who was playing near her house and took her to a forested area nearby, where he sexually assaulted her and injured her face and back, she said.
The victim came home crying with severe pain in her private parts and recounted the incident to her mother, she said. The prosecution had examined 11 witnesses, including the parents of the victim, during the course of the trial, it was stated
The Delhi High Court on Tuesday sought the stand of a chartered accountant and close associate of MP Karti Chidambaram on a plea by the Central Bureau of Investigation challenging the bail granted to him by the trial court in an alleged bribery case concerning visa clearance of 263 Chinese nationals.
Justice Poonam A Bamba issued notice to S Bhaskararaman, the chartered accountant, and listed the plea for further hearing on September 27. Bhaskararaman, who was arrested by the investigating agency on May 18, was granted bail by the trial court on June 9.
The bribery incident in the case is alleged to have taken place in 2011 when Karti Chidambaram’s father P Chidambaram was the Union home minister. The agency has alleged that the CA was approached by Vikas Makharia, the then associate vice president of Talwandi Sabo Power Ltd (TSPL), for the reissue of project visas for 263 Chinese workers working at the Mansa-based power plant which was in the process of being set up.
The CBI FIR has alleged that Makharia approached Karti through his “close associate/frontman” Bhaskararaman, the officials have said.
Project visas were a special type of visa introduced in 2010 for the power and steel sector for which detailed guidelines were issued during P Chidambaram’s tenure as the home minister but there was no provision for the reissue of project visas, the FIR has alleged.
It has alleged that the payment of Rs 50 lakh bribe was routed from TSPL to Karti and Bhaskararaman through Mumbai-based Bell Tools Ltd with payments camouflaged under two invoices raised for consultancy and out of pocket expenses for Chinese visas related works.
Makharia had later thanked Karti and Bhaskararaman on email, it has added.
Pilgrims have left Jammu city to reach Amarnath base camp 12
The 11th batch of over 6,000 Amarnath pilgrims left the Jammu city on Saturday for the twin base camps in Kashmir even as the annual pilgrimage to the cave shine in south Kashmir was halted because of the flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall that killed at least 16 people.
The 43-day Yatra began on June 30 from the twin routes — the traditional 48-km from Nunwan in Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag, and the 14-km shorter but steep Baltal route in Ganderbal district of central Kashmir.
However, the pilgrimage has been suspended after the flash flood near the cave shrine on Friday evening swept away scores of people, swamping tents and community kitchens with mud and rocks hurtling down a hillside.
A decision on the resumption of the pilgrimage will be taken after rescue operations get over, a senior administration official said.
A total of 6,048 pilgrims left the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu city in a convoy of 279 vehicles amid heavy CRPF security, officials said.
They said 1,404 pilgrims, heading for Baltal, were the first to leave the Bhagwati Nagar camp in 115 vehicles around 3.30 am followed by the second convoy of 164 vehicles carrying 4,014 pilgrims for Pahalgam.
With this, 69,535 pilgrims have left the Bhagwati Nagar base camp for the Valley since June 29, the day the first batch of pilgrims was flagged off by Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha.
Till Saturday, over one lakh pilgrims have offered their prayers at the cave shrine, the officials said.
The yatra is scheduled to end on August 11 on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.
Two persons drowned in a river and as many others were rescued from different water bodies in three incidents in Maharashtra’s Thane district, officials said on Tuesday.
On Monday, 12 students went on a picnic to Malanggad fort in Ambernath area.
Two of the students went for a swim in the Ambe river nearby and one of them started drowning.
Two others from the group jumped into the river to save them but they drowned, an official from Hill Line police station said.
The student who was drowning was later rescued, he said.
The deceased, Nikhil Kanojia and Ankit Jaiswal, both aged 17, were students of a college in Dombivli town, he added.
Besides, a 17-year-old boy fell into a creek from a bridge near Saket in the city on Monday night, Thane Municipal Corporation’s regional disaster management cell (RDMC) chief Avinash Sawant said.
A team of local firemen and RDMC personnel rescued him with the help of a boat, the official said.
In another incident, a car fell into the Fadkepada lake in Diva area on Monday night following flooding there after heavy rains.
