Pak EC accepts Imran’s apology in contempt of court case

Imran khan AVThe Election Commission on Thursday accepted the written apology of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and ended the contempt of court proceedings against him.

According to the Dawn, the PTI chief appeared before the commission; nearly two weeks after his non-bailable arrest warrants were issued.

Khan was accompanied by PTI counsel Babar Awan, Secretary General Jahangir Tareen, leaders Shafqat Mehmood and Naeemul Haque at the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Earlier this month, the Commission ordered that Imran be arrested and brought to the next hearing of the case filed by PTI dissident and one of the party’s founding members Akbar S Babar on October 26.

Babar was also present during the hearing on Thursday.

During the hearing, a five-member bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner retired Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza directed the PTI chief’s lawyer to submit a written apology over his remarks accusing the ECP of being biased in the foreign funding case.
