Sportsmen must be treated with respect

National carrier Air India penalizing hockey captain PR Sreejesh on their return after winning the Asian Champions Trophy for excess baggage sounds ridiculous and illogical. The captain who also happens to be the goalkeeper was carrying his sports kit and least the government carrier can do is to allow free sports baggage allowance to players representing the country. Ministers and bureaucrats travel free business class with family when they trot the globe umpteen times during their tenure and it is truly a shame that sportsmen are charged for carrying their sports kit in excess of free baggage allowance inspite of bringing glory to the nation. I request Prime Minister Modi to personally look into this shameful behaviour of the national air carrier staff and not only refund the fine amount to skipper Sreejesh but also make officials apologise for their rude behaviour towards a captain and team that won a championship for our country. Also, teams and players representing India should be given the luxury of travelling business class so that they are mentally and physically less fatigued to give off their best at international sporting events to excel as well as bring glory to the nation!
