Susheela enters Guinness World Records

Susheela has sung nearly 17,700 solo, duet and chorus-backed songs and has now entered the Guinness Book of World Records for her commendable feat. Singer P Susheela or Amma, as she is affectionately called, has been honoured with a Guinness certificate. Pulapaka Susheela, 80, is from Andhra Pradesh and has sung songs not just in Telugu but Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi, Bengali, Oriya, Sanskrit, Tulu and Badaga. She made her debut as a singer in 1950 and continued singing till the 2000s. She shifted to non-film song P Susheela is considered one of the doyens of film music in south India and her melodious voice has brought alive many roles and films over the decades. She has sung as many as 1,336 duets with SP Balasubrahmaniam. This pair continues to hold the record for most duets as a pairs and has cut a lot of spiritual albums as well. In 2008, she was awarded the Padma Bhushan by the government of India. P Susheela has been awarded the best female playback singer at the National Awards five times and has many numerous state awards as well. Kudos to the great singer in the film industry.
