Sushil Kumar knocks the door of high court

A sportsman is not bigger than the sport he plays and Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar moving the Delhi High Court to direct WFI for a trial to decide on Rio berth is unprecedented. The ace wrestler is short of practice and form due to his recent shoulder injury and this court battle is pure frustration and desperation which has shocked most sports lovers in the country. Narsingh Yadav secured the Olympic quota place for India at the world championship in Las Vegans last year and Sushil Kumar is being selfish if he wants to enjoy the fruits of a fellow wrestler.

The wrestling federation apart from other sporting bodies associated with player selection for Olympics should not bog down from such pressure tactics from individual sportsman however great they may be as it would otherwise open an pandora box for future selection and any Tom, Dick or Harry would file a case in courts for representing India at international meets. The job of a sportsman is to fight his battle on the playing arena and not seek judicial intervention. We all respect Sushil Kumar’s greatness and laurels he has brought for our country in the past and we salute him for his efforts. However, his present battle cannot be entertained and hope better sense prevail and Sushil accept the reality that he is fighting a losing battle and withdraws his contention to represent India at Rio games!
