This was 6th year of Newsmakers Achievers award. We started this award in 2010 with an intention to acknowledge those people, who have contributed to this nation and society through their respective proficiency but never get recognized. Nowadays, award event have become purely commercial, here one get award if he is popular, resourceful whose name is saleable and who can pull crowd, media and advertisements for channel. In such commercial world of awards, we wanted to establish the honesty in felicitating people.
When we started the award, we also accepted sponsorship. However, soon we realized that we are compromising with the ethics by fulfilling the demands of sponsors. We take lots of efforts in selecting awardees and sponsor gives his recommendations that doesn’t fit into our parameters or somewhere mismatch our expectations. Then there were also demand from the sponsors that, one of his members will present awards to the awardees of his choices. Now, when jury members are selecting an honest IPS or IAS officer and some corrupt businessman are presenting those awards then the whole event gets blotted by it. So, we finally decided not to fall in trap to such unwanted cravings and temptations. Sometimes, money makes you to compromise over things which are not worth. From last three years, we are only sponsoring the awards with our own revenue. Gathering finance to do such event is always a problem. Moreover, sometimes awardees are too demanding. They ask for business class airfare, some wanted five star hotels to stay and even some demand tickets for their family and friends too. Some personalities are even demanding money to mark their presence. Many times, when we approached them ‘so called social reformers’ demanded weird things which are difficult to believe. We come across odd situations and questions too.
You might keep high moral and good intent to make the difference. With such odds and evens, we sustained for 6 successful years. It’s been pain and fulfillment but finally we ended one more year towards this journey. Many people awarded by us, many come to the event every year without fail. Many are with us and some on their way, but I am sure our award has made difference to them. Whenever they look at our award, they must be feeling happy that they deserve this award and it was purely given on merits basis.
Since our entry into the market, we have always been experimenting with things to set new trends in media and keep parallel journalism alive. Holding a Publication house or Newspaper is no more a prerogative of an Industrialist. What matters is that you need to have courage and capabilities and a strong pen in hand. There is no alternative to hard work and sincere efforts. For me, it has been quite an eventful journey and a fantastic learning process. On this occasion, I would first like to express my sincere gratitude to all my readers and the people who actually shaped me as a journalist and helped me grow. Also to all my subordinates who let me explore and lend freedom to reach new avenues. My team includes a small group of young and inexperienced staffs with some already mentored while some yet to explore. My office helper to chief desk all played their role in making Afternoon an accomplishment.
It’s a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma. On one hand, it’s well established that the nation’s system is in shambles. On the other hand, there’s no dearth of achievers doers, go-getters and enablers in the Indian society. Across the sub-continent, there are tens of thousands of citizens working against incredible odds despite delay in justice, the insolence and rampant corruption the proud man’s contumely in addition to the incompetent system to keep the flame of democracy burning. Quite obviously deep within Indian society and largely unsung, there are millions of citizens who by sheer dint of self-service and application are devising socio-economic and intellectual solutions, enabling continuous progress and development of the country.
It is our privilege to introduce you to ‘6th Newsmakers Achievers’ Award 2015. We felt extremely proud to honour different dignitaries with an award. Their contribution towards this society is worth applauding. Many of them have set a rare example in monotones world of competition. We are here to appreciate their contribution towards making difference to the fraternity and this nation.
NBC broadcasts the prestigious achievers award 2015 to honour those exceptional Indians who have shown promise and excellence in their respective fields and have made India proud. There may be several renowned individuals who are usually seen as the most contributing figure all the time but the fact is that there are many unsung and unfamiliar heroes in the society who without having the thirst of getting publicised are steadily contributing in silence. The award, which acknowledge achievers in their respective fields, be it politics, social activist, business, sports or entertainment who have not just strengthened the foundation of our society but have also helped build brand India. The jurors and citizen participation jointly chose the winners. Late Balasaheb Thackeray like legendary leader received only one award in his life time and that was from us. There are many such moments that made difference to our lives too.
For us, this journey was not easy. We have skipped the hurdles and reached so far, the next level is still to arrive.
