Ashwin the player of the year

Ashwin accused of being a defensive bowler was a different person down under. He set the tone with wickets of left handed batsmen in the test series and that followed and showed his real class as test standard off-spinner. He has blossomed into a top class number one all-rounder with significant show with the bat down the order. My player of the year though was Ravichandran Ashwin. Not just for taking 62 test wickets @17.20 with seven five-wicket hauls but for rediscovering himself and his bowling and for easing into the role of the leader of the attack. Sometimes you need to play with your skill and your mind to discover what works best and Ashwin found that in 2015. He made you look for him, you wondered what he would come up with next and he rose to the challenge of taking on the best of the opposition. He has set the bar for himself in 2016 and that is what champions do. He came, saw and conquered Indian wickets with his teasing spin, good variation and a subtle carrom ball to fox the best batsmen in the world. He deserves the number one spot as an all-rounder and the number two spot in the Test bowling rankings. He is an able all-rounder from the Indian Team. My player of the year award goes to Ravichandran Ashwin.
