Upset over not being given preferential treatment, the Akali leader and his son allegedly assaulted a pregnant nurse after she told them to wait to get their patient admitted at a private hospital in Moga.

Paramjit Singh and his son Gurjit got aggressive allegedly because they were asked to wait for their turn. The nurse was slapped and pushed so harshly that she fell to the ground. Paramjit Singh’s wife Daljit Kaur is a village sarpanch.

Paramjeet is said to have started abusing nurse Ramandeep Kaur when she told him to wait at the reception. “He started abusing me, saying ‘tu mainu jandi nahin, main Akali sarpanch aa’ (You don’t know me. I am an Akali sarpanch),” she stated in her first-information report (FIR).

Father and son are seen in CCTV visuals shouting at the staff and then confronting the nurse when she tried to reason with them. The video, which has gone viral, shows Paramjit Singh and his son shoving and slapping the nurse.

“I only had asked them to wait outside as they were sitting on seats meant for staff. They could not take it, which I objected but they slapped me and pushed me to the floor, they hit me even though I requested them to spare me because of my condition,” Ramandeep said.

“The Akali leader wanted VIP treatment. He did not want to wait for the doctor to get his patient admitted at the hospital,” the nurse claimed. “The SAD leader’s son too hit me in front of my colleagues,” she alleged, adding the duo also used derogatory language against her.

Police have recorded the statement of the nurse and action would be taken against the accused, said SHO Gurmail Singh Sekhon.
