After Australian star Mitchell Johnson was declared fit to play for Kings XI Punjab on Monday, Mumbai Indians have received a piece of good news too. Corey Anderson, the immensely talented New Zealand all-rounder, is set to join Mumbai Indians for his first stint in the Indian Premier League.

Anderson, who was nursing a finger injury, was in doubt to join Mumbai Indians from Day 1 of the IPL. Most teams have started preparing for the first leg of the tournament to be held in UAE from next week. Mumbai bought Anderson for Rs. 4.5 in the February auctions.

Defending champions Mumbai Indians will play the tournament opener against Kolkata Knight Riders in Abu Dhabi on April 16. Anderson is likely to assist the team from the very first game.

“There’s no fracture, no break and we’re very happy with how the injury is going,” Anderson said, according to Fairfax NZ News, after seeing a specialist in Auckland on Friday. “The ligaments are all fine too; everything else is good to go. Everything went well and the news was all positive.”

Attempting a catch against Sri Lanka, Anderson had injured the little finger of his of his right hand during the ICC World T20 in Bangladesh. The injury has healed well.
