Dalit-LeadKanta Gurudatta Khadtare had held dharna at Azad Maidan for protesting against the murder of her son Chetan Gurudatta Khadtare two years ago in Ahmednagar district. Even though two years has been passed but Kanta is yet to get justice. Ahmednagar district has been witnessing several atrocities being committed against Dalit community. Last month three members of a Dalit community were killed one of them decapitated, before being thrown into a dry well in the Jawakhede Khalsa village of Ahmednagar district. The police are yet make any major headway into this case.

According to Kanta Gurudatta Khadtare, “During the Ganpati festival my son had met with an accident and MNS workers were responsible for it. Later, I had approached the Diva Police Station to file a complaint but they refused to register the complaint. I also met the local MNS corporator but he threatened to harm me if I file a complaint against him. Therefore, I didn’t register a complaint against him.”

“On the night when Balasaheb Thackeray passed away MNS activists arrived at my home and took my son saying they will return in 15 minutes. However, my son failed to return home. We received a call from a builder asking whether my son has returned home” added Kanta.

Subsequently, Kanta approached the Thane Police station for inquiring about the whereabouts of her son. The police misbehaved with her. She informed them that she learnt that her son has been kept in the custody of the police but they asked her to leave.

Later, Kanta accompanied by her husband, his friend Kishan Gaikwad had gone to Thane Police Station. Police officials asked them to leave. So they went to the hospital and found their son lying dead there. He had sustained injuries on hand and stomach. They requested the hospital management to handover the custody of their son’s dead body.

“They failed to cooperate and instead asked us to leave. We protested outside the hospital for four days. Later, the police gave us verbal assurance that they will arrest the accused who is responsible for my son’s murder. They also permitted us take the custody of my son’s dead body. My son’s body was disfigured” added Kanta.

Justice is yet to be delivered to Kanta. She had approached the Governor, Home Minister and NGOs’. When she protested at Azad Maidan for one month, her second child was thrown from a running train. He sustained injuries and has become paralyzed.

Kanta has shifted from Diva to Kurla as she was receiving death threats from MNS activists.

General Secretary of Republican Party of India Mr. Gaurav Sharma said, “We will offer assistance to the victim’s family whose son was brutally murdered by the alleged MNS worker in Thane. I as a General Secretary of RPI will ask my senior leaders to look into this issue and the recent killings of Dalits. We will strongly protest against it.”
