People across all age groups took part in the 5th Navi Mumbai Mayor Marathon at the Palm Beach Road. The enthusiasm showed by sporting fraternity exceeded all the limits. There were over 7000 participants comparing to the number 6000 last year. It was sporting extravaganza as all age group runners participated in the Mayor Marathon. The event turnaround with great dancing talent and with side attractions dancing group thrilled the audience with sizzling music and enchanting dancing talent. The audience took part in the dancing stage and the spectators were spell bound. Traffic in this node was stopped to facilitate the runners a smooth run in the long stretch of road. Both the young and the old enjoyed with gaiety the marathon atmosphere in a very big way. Belapur MLA Ms. Manda Vijay Mhatre and the Mayor Sudhakar Sonwane were the chief guests for this event. Ms. Netra Aashish Shirke, Standing Committee Chairperson of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation graced the occasion and did a wonderful by making it a meaningful one with emphasis on Clean Green Navi Mumbai. Senior citizens of Sanpada, Nerul and Vashi participated in big numbers. Age is not a bar for the seniors and they made it big. Children enjoyed the big occasion with enthusiastic running. In main marathon, city cop, Prashant Surve swept home the top prize of Rs.31000 in the men’s 15 km raace, while Varsha Bhavari won Rs.15000 in 10 km women’s group. Old couples participating in the event were the main attraction. Singh was a king at the mike as he sung slow Differently-abled persons also made their presence felt in the race. In all it was fun, frolic and entertainment for the participants and the organisers in the same wave length and it was a runaway success. Happy memories are here again of Mayor Marathon 2016.
