Every year June 21 is celebrated as International Yoga Day. Yoga gives an amazing balance to life. Mahatma Gandhi’s said “Yoga is skill in action”. The ultimate goal of yoga is, however, to help the individual to transcend the self and attain enlightenment. As the Bhagavad-Gita says, “A person is said to have achieved yoga, the union with the Self, when the perfectly disciplined mind gets freedom from all desires, and becomes absorbed in the Self alone.” It is true that yoga is part of a wider heritage and attracts practitioners from among adherents of various religions. Yoga has become more and more popular over the years and if this had come sooner it would have really been far more beneficial. Yoga is not a religion but it is a way of living with an aim “Healthy mind in a healthy body”. It is a science of well-being, integrating the body, mind and soul. Yoga is very important as it gives comfort to the mind and not just to the body. It makes the mind flexible as well so one can be malleable to any situation. In a world that is stressed out of many problems, It seems we need to come back to ourselves and see how we can engage with each other and ourselves to bring in greater peace and harmony.  B.K.S. Iyengar who rightly said “Yoga is a timeless pragmatic science evolved over thousands of years dealing with the physical, moral, mental and spiritual well-being of man as a whole”.
