Shaina NC receives flak for posting Gujarat earthquake pictures showing RSS swayamsevaks performing rehabilitation work in Nepal.

RSS-in-Nepal-LeadAt a time when relief and rehabilitation work is underway in the earthquake affected Nepal, BJP spokesperson Shaina NC is trying to derive some political mileage from this tragedy which has already claimed more than 3,000 lives. Shaina had posted a photo of RSS activists on social networking site twitter and mentioned that they are actively participating in the relief and rescue operations in Nepal. In her tweet Shaina mentioned that 20,000 RSS swayamsevaks are heading to the calamity struck nation but media has failed to cover this news. Thus instead of expressing sympathy for earthquake victims she is indulging in PR exercise. On the other hand, the pictures posted by her are those pertaining to the 2001 Gujarat earthquake. The original pictures are available on google.

Netizens criticised Shaina for posting irrelevant pictures about the earthquake incident. Here is what they had commented

Proud to be associated to the @RSSorg @RSS_Org true patriots during calamities

More than 200 climbers have been rescued around Mount Everest, which was struck by deadly avalanches in the 7.8-magnitude quake. Tent cities have been constructed in Kathmandu for displaced persons and those who are yet to return to their homes.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the earthquake was strong enough to merit a “red alert” for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses. It said that “high casualties and extensive damage are probable and the disaster is likely widespread.”

Such a powerful quake would result in destruction anywhere, but in a nation as poverty-stricken as Nepal, its citizens are particularly vulnerable. It has been plagued by instability in recent years, and general strikes have recently brought chaotic scenes to Kathmandu.

Scaling up relief and rescue efforts in quake-hit Nepal that was named ‘Operation Maitri’, India deployed two dozen military aircraft and choppers and was also undertaking a “big evacuation” through the road route. A slew of steps were also taken for speedy evacuation of stranded tourists including goodwill visas to foreigners and mobilising buses and ambulances to bring them by road. Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a follow-up meeting, to review progress of relief and rescue operations following the major earthquake in Nepal.
