Modi’s popularity declining?

The Modi wave no longer exists as people are unhappy with his performance.

Lead-narendra-modiNarendra Modi who had come to power by promising acche din is suddenly witnessing a decline in his popularity as he had failed to fulfill the promises made by him during Lok Sabha election. The NDA government’s failure to tackle inflation and rising corruption has dented Modi’s image. Youth had voted for him in large numbers as they wanted change of governance but two months have already passed but no results are visible yet.

Furthermore, Modi has failed to provide a clean government too. A minister in his cabinet was accused of rape by a woman. And he has appointed as party president Amit Shah, who faces charges of conspiracy and murder. Even Mumbaikars who had supported Modi was disappointed when the NDA government had suddenly hiked the railway fares.

Congress state President Manikrao Thakre said, “Modi’s popularity has been declining. People are now aware that Modi was only making promises during the Lok Sabha election which he has failed to fulfill. They will teach him a lesson in the forthcoming assembly polls.”

JitendraJitendra Awhad, NCP MLA and Cabinet Minister of Medical Education and Horticulture said, “The result of the Uttarkhand bypoll election only shows that the Narendra Modi’s impact no more exists. The BJP leaders also were making unwarranted statements like banning bikinis in Goa. The party’s image has taken a beating after force-feeding incident at Maharashtra Sadab.”

Rajan-VarmaRajan Varma, a rickshaw driver from Dahisar, said, “I am unhappy with Modi’s performance as he has failed to control rising inflation. He had promised good days ahead which is yet to come.”

People were earlier hugely impressed with the slogan ‘Abki Baar Modi Sarkar’ as Modi had become a household name. He also had extensively used social media to connect with voters a strategy which is emulated by opposition parties now.

Raju-MoreRaju More, a marketing executive employed with a private firm said, “I had voted for BJP as Narendra Modi had promised to provide good governance. But now I believed that the decision taken by me was wrong.”

The Congress has swept assembly by polls by retaining Dharchula seat which went to Chief Minister Harish Rawat and wresting Doiwala and Someshwar seats from BJP. The BJP has registered massive victory in the Lok Sabha election from this constituency.

Sundar-RajendarSundar Rajendar, a Malad resident said,“Modi’s popularity has taken a hit nowadays. People are unhappy with the NDA government due to railway fare hike and average budget.”

Ashok Turbhekar, an Advertising Manager employed with a private firm said, “We had huge expectations from the Modi government. If Modi fails to deliver then the BJP will suffer in the forthcoming assembly polls.”

Congress’ bypoll victory in Uttarakhand is a shot in the arm for the party which had lost all five seats to BJP in the Lok Sabha polls. The difference in votes also shows BJP’s declining popularity which was higher prior to the Lok Sabha election. Rawat secured 31,214 votes against his nearest rival BJP’s BD Joshi who garnered 10,610 in Dharchula.

Amol-GuptaAmol Gupta a grocery shop owner said, “We should give some more time to the NDA government and should not pass judgements against Modi so early.”

Kishor-PatilKishor Patil, employee working with a private firm said, “Modi popularity has been fading due to surging inflation. Vegetables prices have gone up drastically which is affecting our pocket.”
