The wreckage of the Pawan Hans helicopter that crashed into the Arabian Sea off Mumbai coast last week, was located and the body of one of the pilots recovered on Monday evening, the Coast Guard said.

“Wreckage of the ditched Pawan Hans helicopter located in a joint operation by Coast Guard and MRCC Mumbai, body of one pilot recovered,” reported ANI quoting a statement from the helicopter company.

The statement also said that recovery of other parts of ditched chopper was in progress.

A Pawan Hans helicopter, with two pilots on board, had crashed into the Arabian Sea off Mumbai Coast last Wednesday evening. The pilot and the co-pilot were identified as Captain E Samuel and T K Guha.

The 14-seater VTPWF Dauphin aircraft of 2001-make took off from the ONGC installation at 7:12 pm and contact with it was lost eight minutes later.

The crash occurred during night landing practice.

A search operation was launched by the Navy and Coast Guard to locate the helicopter and its occupants.

But the search team had little success as poor visibility hampered the search and rescue operations though some debris was recovered the next day.

“We are yet to locate two pilots on board the ill-fated copter, but we have recovered its door and some debris,” a defence spokesperson had said on Thursday.
