Even though the opposition gave a clearance and red-flagged the centre’s proposal to implement a four-slab rate structure as part of GST regime. The Union Government is likely to face problems in the passage of relevant legislation in Parliament if it exceeds reasonable limits of tax rates. In the process, many voices have cropped up for the one tax proposal of GST. Generally, the council divided the rate structure, dual control and other nitty-gritties. Thus the three day meet ended inconclusively ahead of schedule on day two. Thus the Union Government felt that the GST council has almost reached consensus on tax rates and it is one more feather in the cap of Finance Ministry. The issue has been virtually converged on a consensus. The technical issues will be sorted out in a period of time and formal decision will emerge in the next meeting. One tax and many voices may die down finally.
