PM Modi and Rajnath Singh Lead, Smriti Irani Trails in Key UP Battles

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lead in their respective constituencies, Varanasi and Lucknow. However, several Union Ministers, including Smriti Irani and Mahendra Nath Pandey, are trailing in Amethi and Chandauli. The current electoral contest in Uttar Pradesh is significant as it sends 80 MPs to the Lok Sabha.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh are leading their Varanasi and Lucknow seats, respectively. However, Union Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani and Union Heavy Industries Minister Mahendra Nath Pandey are trailing in Amethi and Chandauli.

Besides PM Modi, 11 Union ministers are contesting from the politically crucial state of Uttar Pradesh, which sends 80 MPs to the Lok Sabha.

The frontrunners include PM Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, MoS Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, MoS Law and Justice SP Singh Baghel, and MoS Consumer Affairs Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti. Conversely, those trailing are Smriti Irani, Mahendra Nath Pandey, Sanjeev Kumar Balyan, Anupriya Patel, Bhanu Pratap Singh Verma, Kaushal Kishore, and Ajay Mishra Teni.

At 12.30 pm, PM Modi was ahead by 79,566 votes over Ajay Rai of the Congress. In Lucknow, Rajnath Singh led by 19,642 votes against SP’s Ravidas Mehrotra. Pankaj Chaudhary led Maharajganj by over 24,000 votes, and SP Singh Baghel held a 70,000-vote lead in Agra.

Conversely, Smriti Irani trailed K L Sharma of the Congress by nearly 50,000 votes in Amethi. Mahendra Nath Pandey was trailing SP’s Birendra Singh in Chandauli by 1,134 votes. Sanjeev Kumar Balyan, Anupriya Patel, Bhanu Pratap Singh Verma, Kaushal Kishore, and Ajay Mishra were trailing in their respective constituencies by significant margins.
