Politicisation over Dalit murders

Dalit-Murder-leadPolitical parties like BJP, NCP, RPI are trying to politicize the triple Dalit family murder case. Each one of them is attempting to gain political mileage out of it as the BJP led Maharashtra government is planning to hand over the case to eminent lawyer Ujjwal Nikam. On the other hand, NCP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister wants everyone to come forward to provide financial assistance to the relatives of victim. RPI A leader Ramdas Athavale had demanded that Ahmednagar should be declared as an “atrocity-prone” district.

DilipMinister of State Dilip Kamble did not see the need for such an announcement. He said, “We will approach Nikam to engage him as public prosecutor. If he is not available, we will look for other eminent lawyer to bring the accused to justice in a fast track court. There are 20 distinguished police officers with proven records coordinating the investigation which is at its final stage.”

“The case is expected to be solved within a couple of days. The accused has been arrested. The government is serious to prevent such kind of crime against the backward community. All necessary steps will be taken to restrict repetition of such incidents” he said.

Three members of the Dalit family in the village including the husband, wife and their 19-year-old son were murdered in their house by unknown assailants on October 21 and their severed body parts were found in a dry well.

The Shiv Sena has termed the triple murder case as inhuman and wanted the BJP government to ensure that selfish politicians and Naxalities don’t take advantage of it to spread violence in the state.

“On one hand, there is widespread anger among people as a result of these killings and on the other hand Naxalites have started issuing threats once again. Former Home Minister RR Patil had first highlighted this Naxal connection. The new government should make sure that Javkheda murders do not become a tool for spreading violence by selfish politicians and Naxalites,” the Sena said in an edit in its mouthpiece ‘Saamana’.

“It is true that the Fadnavis government has just taken over the reins of the state. Since these killings have moved people emotionally, it is necessary that his government takes stringent steps immediately. Strong action should be taken against the perpetrators of the crime,” the Sena said.
Governor Vidyasagar Rao had recently directed the State Director General of Police, Sanjeev Dayal, to appoint a Special Task Force (STF) to probe the murders.
