Save every drop of water

The comments of High Court judge Justice VM Kanade deserves applause. He says that hosting the IPL in draught hit Maharashtra would be an criminal waste of water when people don’t even get water to drink. Using 60,000 lack litres of water to maintain pitches when there is no drop to drink in several remote villages is criminality of the cruellest kind and time for even the Prime Minister or President of our country to intervene and stop this gross inequality when water should be used as a priority for drinking.

IPL in any case is ‘masala cricket’ now famous for scams and match fixing mostly played for illegal bookmakers. Several teams have been scrapped or suspended for dubious transactions and the highest courts of our land should even go a step further to ban it in total to save Indian cricket. Cricket is interesting to watch when played between countries and the IPL format only encourages fixing and betting. We need to save every drop of water in the coming days and pray for good monsoon.
