It is good that the Rajya Sabha passed the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Bill, 2015, but the release of the juvenile accused in the December 16, 2012 Delhi gang rape case is shocking, not only for the victim’s family and loved ones, but for the entire nation. Sadly, the current Bill is not applicable to the convicted juvenile. In order to protect women, strong punishment for heinous crimes, irrespective of the age of the offender is needed.
