Foreign nationals visiting India for business or vacation are facing inconvenience on account of long queues at ATM’s as they run from one bank to the other for withdrawing cash or replacing currency. I met a couple from England near a mall in Malad who had no cash even to pay for cab and not a penny in their wallet to eat. The government should make special arrangements to look after these foreign nationals who are our guests by asking banks to look after their needs on priority basis. Why should they suffer if our country is witnessing issues like corruption and black money?
Citizens too are struggling to withdraw their own money from banks while actual ‘Black Money’ transactions are happening elsewhere by ‘special brokers’ who have emerged to convert big denomination defunct notes into the new currency made available at a price. Demonetization would eradicate or reduce ‘Black’ money but government should target the real ‘cancer’ in the system by arresting the corrupt and ease banking transactions for ordinary citizens so that they can go for their jobs and not worry about standing in the queues for money to buy their food!
