Chhota Shakeel claims that Modi has paid them Rs 1000 crore hence can roam scot free now.
Underworld don Dawood Ibrahim had sent hitmen for killing former IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi for his failure to pay money of Rs 1000 crore. However, Modi managed to save himself after paying the money as he was left scot free by the D company. Dawood’s trusted aide Chhota Shakeel said that Modi had sought the D company’s assistance to escape from law. According to him people remember underworld during both good and bad times. The Congress alleged that both state and central government were helping Lalit Modi.
In an exclusive interview with a news channel, Mumbai serial blasts accused Dawood Ibrahim’s trusted aide Chhota Shakeel said he had gone to kill former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi to Bangkok. He said his men reached late.
“We wanted to kill Lalit Modi. The case was not related to cricket. If it was related to cricket, we would have killed him when he was in Mumbai. The matter was related to business. He had to give us Rs 1000 crore. Can’t we ask for our money,” he said.
“We wanted to kill him in Bangkok. We got late. When we reached there, he had left,” he added.
He said the matter was resolved as Modi had paid up.
“He had cleared the payment. We have nothing to do with him. He can roam about freely. He can come to India if he wishes so,” he said.
“He wants the shelter of D company’s name, bhai’s (Dawood) name. Everybody needs our name. For good they take our name, they take our name for bad things; they take our name to hide from law,” he added.
Modi had gone to London soon after the third edition of the IPL in 2010 when the Indian cricket board suspended him on the basis of a number of allegations ranging from money laundering and offering bribes to match fixing and illegal betting.
With Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar stating that the surrender proposal of 1993 blasts mastermind Dawood Ibrahim was rejected as it was conditional, the Congress Party took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and asked whether he would be ready to get former IPL boss Lalit Modi back.
“Dawood is a criminal, whatever he did cannot be tolerated. It is the duty of Government of India to bring him back. PM Modi has said it many times that he will bring back Dawood Ibrahim. But today, I feel that first he should bring back Lalit Modi”, said Congress leader Rashid Alvi.
Rashid Alvi said that the Government of India should bring back Lalit Modi and Dawood also. “The whole country is waiting for that and they should be handed over to the law,” Rashid Alvi said.
“Dawood is a criminal and he should be brought back at any cost. It is the duty of the PM to bring him back,” he added.
The Congress leader further said that Pakistan should be pressurized and Dawood should be brought back.
Earlier Pawar said that senior lawyer Ram Jethmalani’s proposition regarding the surrender of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim was not viable as a criminal like him could not be left without being arrested.
“Ram Jethmalani gave a proposition that’s true, but it was conditional. Condition was that after Dawood comes to Mumbai he will not be arrested but permitted to stay at home. How could we accept that? A man, who has so many cases against him, cannot escape from the clutches of law,” Pawar said.
Meanwhile the Rashtrapati Bhavan has filed a complaint with Delhi Police against Lalit Modi for posting “defamatory” tweets against President Pranab Mukherjee and his secretary Omita Paul.
