Canonization of Mother Teresa

Today, because of the missionaries of charity, many newly born children who are left on the streets to die or thrown in dustbins by their parents are seeing the light of the world. We are glad to hear that Mother Teresa is being declared a saint by Pope Francis on September 4, 2016. With the canonisation of Mother Teresa as a saint, India will have six saints of its own. They are — St Gonsalo Garcia, St Alphonsa, St Kuriakose Elias Chavara, St Euphrasia Eluvathingal, St Joseph Vaz and St Mother Teresa. St Gonsalo Garcia of Vasai was the first Indian saint. He belonged to the East Indian Catholic community of Mumbai and we East Indians of Mumbai and Vasai are proud of him.
