Choicest selection

Sandeep Patil as selection committee chairman is doing lots of experiments of late to promote the standard of the game in India. We have abundant talent in our country and a tour to Zimbabwe is the ideal time to horn out the latent talent available in the States. It is time for experiments as number of players are ageing and not likely to go on the next tour. So it is ideal to infuse young blood in the team. The selection of Chahal and Jayant Yadav as spinners in the side is an ideal choice. Dropping of Harbhajan Singh is the right decision as he is up the hill and was struggling at the IPL level also. The inclusion of Karun Nair, Faiz Fazal and Mandeep Singh made sense as our middle order mostly cave out even against mediocre attack in World Cup T-20 and it is time to give chance to youngsters on an away tour and rest key players to feel fresh after a strenuous IPL 9 season. Dhoni is the right choice to lead but how a long rope is given for a player already announced his retirement from test cricket. The team to West Indies show one notable inclusion in Shardul Thakur but otherwise the same tried and tested players were included to play against a resurgent West Indies side. But the inclusion of Binny raised the eye brows as he was just a passenger in the earlier tours without any match winning show. The salient feature of selection is the dropping of Suresh Raina and Yuvraj Singh for the Zimbabwe tour. Strong and experienced contingent of sixteen to the Caribbean Island should perform better to prevent a series of debacles outside Asia in recent times and prove there is no substitute to experience.
