World No 1 Novak Djokovic deserves all applause as he blasted Andy Murray out of his senses to win the Australian Open in straight sets in a one-sided encounter to win his 11th Grand Slam title of his career. It was his record 6th Australian Open Slam as he equalled the feat of Roy Emerson and Serena Williams who have won equal titles than him. Djokovic’s game reminds one of Boris Becker who used to play power packed tennis and it is no wonder than that Becker is Djokovic’s head coach at the moment. The big serving Serb is way ahead of his opponents and he finishes his matches with ease which is the hall mark of a great player. A lot of tennis is still left for Djokovic who has an great chance to surpass Roger Federers 17 Grand Slam titles in the years to come and here is wishing him good luck in his endeavour.
Germany’s Angelique Kerber played a stunner to beat Serena Williams to win the Women’s event and the world of tennis would hear a lot about her in the years to come. The talented German seems to be a long race horse and the women’s international tennis circuit would see many of her exploits in the coming years. Sania Mirza too did India proud by winning the Women’s doubles alongside Martina Hingis to keep our national flag flying at Melbourne!
