Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Saturday ignited fresh controversy by claiming that he was denied a Nobel Prize because of his skin colour. During a yoga camp on the last day of his five-day camp at Morhabadi ground in Ranchi, Ramdev was speaking about awards being returned in protest against rising intolerance in the country.

“Many incompetent and undeserving people seem to have got awards and some people are playing cheap politics on the pretext of returning their awards. The country’s image is being tarnished on the international platform,” he said, comparing his own contribution to the society in the field of yoga. “I would have received a Nobel Prize, but I have not because may be I am black,” he said.

Patanjali Yoga Peeth member Sanjay Seth said Ramdev made the comment in the course of his usual interaction with the public during yoga camps. Coincidently, chief minister Raghubar Das was also present at the camp when he made the statement. Ramdev left for Delhi later in the afternoon.
