For Yoga Day , Mumbaikars hit beauty salons

They want to groom themselves to take selfies tagging Prime Minister Narendra Modi on International Yoga Day.

Yoga-leadThe Modi government has made ambitious plans to celebrate the International Yoga Day on June 21, 2015 at Delhi’s Rajpath. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the celebration as he wants to promote yoga as a mass movement and connect people. On the other hand, the event has given a fillip to beauty business in Mumbai. Mumbaikars have already started exercising to lose weight and sport a toned look before the event. Women are visiting beauty salons and giving themselves the much needed makeover to look beautiful.

Many of them are sweating out in gyms and going for morning walks to have fit body. They have started shopping for exercise outfits like t-shirts, tank tops, track pants and shorts. Women are visiting spas to rejuvenate themselves and look fresh for the important day. They are keen to take photographs and share them on social networking sites which have become immensely popular today. Thus, beauty clinics in the city are laughing their way to the bank as they are doing brisk business ahead of the International Yoga Day. Many beauty salons have been booked for the entire week.

A cosmetic surgeon at Mumbai’s reputed hospital spoke to AV on the condition of anonymity and said, “Many young girls are keen to take part in the Yoga Day function. They will wear special sports outfits like baniyan, shorts and are opting for a toned body. They are excited and eagerly looking forward to the event.”

Whereas Sakshi Kulpati, a student said, “Modi will share a post pertaining to various aspects of yoga daily. Even we participants are interested in sharing our pics and want to look glamorous and fit. I will post my pictures everywhere tagging the PM. I want to look as glamorous like Shilpa Shetty and Bipasha Basu looked in their video CDs.”

omkar-karveOmkar Karve, a Marathi TV actor said, “Modi’s emphasis on Yoga is aimed at making people healthy physically and mentally. Yoga has been popular in India for a very long time because of some Yoga gurus. However, it became a household name only after the initiative taken by Baba Ramdev. He has been popularly known as Yoga Guru and introduced it in foreign countries too. I am unhappy to find that no reference has been made about his contribution to Yoga. Since Yoga day has become an international event hence everybody wants to look good.”

dipanjan-ghoshDipanjan Ghosh, IT student said, “I will be sporting a new haircut and will groom myself. I will also purchase the track pant and shirt worn by Modiji. Everyone wants to impress Modiji irrespective of whether he watches our posts or not.”

ravi-bharadwajRavi Bharadwaj, a government employee said, “Every step taken for celebrating the International Yoga Day is justified as it has become a mega event. Everyone wants to look good on this occasion. Social media will be flooded with posts of Yoga. Fashion, beauty and glamour will get a huge boost.”

Dr Naik from Slimming centre said, “Anyways trying to look slim and good for better photos on Yoga day in itself is a motivation towards grooming and maintaining oneself. I am over loaded with booking for I-lipo and U-lipo (fat melting and skin tightening procedures). Many people are going for skin polishing too as there has been a huge upswing in business.”

hemant-khairnarHemant Khairnar an animator told AV, “I planned to join yoga classes long back but due to long working hours I become tired, and was postponing it. Now I am mentally and physically prepared for doing Yoga. I have grown a beard like Modi as he has inspired me a lot.”

Janani Arya a beautician said, “Facial, waxing full body and hair spa appointments have been overbooked. We are trying to make everyone presentable. Thanks to this Yoga event our business has got a huge boost.”

Across India many event managements companies are busy chalking out plans for the Yoga Day. Many missionaries and Yoga institutes which were jobless will hold free yoga classes and mega shows on the day to explain to the world the efficacy of what remains India’s most famous export to the world.”

Hundreds of thousands of health enthusiasts from 193 countries will perform various ‘asanas’ (yogic postures) at different places across the globe with some 35,000 to 40,000 people who would lead the celebrations from Rajpath in the heart of the Indian capital to mark the first International Yoga Day.

Ishvar V. Basavaraddi, director, Morarji Institute of Yoga Sciences, said that people from 193 countries would take part in the celebrations.

“Our institute has prepared thousands of CDs and booklets in different languages to help people perform proper asanas worldwide,” Basavaraddi said adding that the CDs and booklets have already been sent to all 193 countries.

The CDs will be played on Rajpath on big screens so that participants can perform while watching them.

The half-hour programme will begin at 7 a.m.,” Basavaraddi said, adding that the event will find a place in the Guinness World Records.

The United Nations (UN) declared June 21 as the International Yoga Day on India’s request last year.

Mr Modi will be joined by some of his Ministers, Several Defence personnel and thousands of school children as part of the Yoga Day celebrations while several top Bollywood stars, including Amitabh Bachchan and Shilpa Shetty, and sportsmen Virat Kohli and Sushil Kumar will take over as brand ambassadors for the day.

In fact, Modi has even invited Opposition members and rivals, including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to join in on the Yoga Day.

Earlier some senior clerics and Muslim community leaders had opposed the government’s yoga day celebrations on June 21 to mark International Yoga Day and demanded that the celebrations be made optional.
