A deal between the Government and Congress on the GST Bill could be the end of the stalemate as good progress has been made in the negotiations and an outcome is now a possibility. The specifics of a mechanism to determine the tax rate and resolve disputes are sealed. Congress comments comes a couple of days after a meeting of the empowered committee of state finance ministers with Finance Minister Arun Jaitley saw most states argue in favour of retaining relative freedom to set tax rates. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has hinted a major policy reforms soon and a transformational change is expected. In the meanwhile AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal claimed it as just a deal between Congress and BJP and an eyewash of discussions and deliberations. Anyway, GST progress is a good for the governance of the country as a whole.
