Karnataka Border boiling

Amid dissent by the Opposition parties and serious opposition from farmers, the Karnataka Government decided to release 15,000 cusecs of water a day to Tamil Nadu as per the Supreme Court’s directive. The State has also decided to file a modification petition before the apex court in addition to approaching the supervisory committee to convince it about the distress situation due to a deficient monsoon. A decision to this effect was taken by the government after a meeting of the floor leaders of both Houses of the State legislature and MPs from the State.

Karnataka released water from the Cauvery river to Tamil Nadu as massive protests against the Supreme Court order. Farmers and pro-Kannada groups took to the streets in Mandya and neighbouring regions to protest against the court’s order that directed Karnataka to release 15,000 cusecs Cauvery water per day to save over 40,000 acres of Samba crop in Tamil Nadu. The ethnic war for water continues despite Supreme Court order and the Karnataka Government and its people behave in a silly way and try to settle old scores despite the court order. Now they were forced to release water to Tamil Nadu and the protests makes the border tense.
