This refers to your report “Vijay Mallya case: ED writes to banks, multiple probe agency” (March 15) and “Mallya case: ED gets replies from half a dozen banks” (March 16). Vijay Mallya crisis is a story of greed. One’s imagination fails to understand how Mallya who owes crores of rupees to banks viz. a ‘Wilful Defaulter” left the country. The banks authorities should have taken timely action instead of dragging their feet. It is people’s money that is involved in this sordid mess and the bank officials must face the music. The deftness with which Vijay Mallya, who is facing an inquiry for alleged financial irregularities, could depart from the country shows that the authorities have a lot to answer for. He has taught us that we should not be repentant for being born into privilege. India needs him to teach him a lesson that no impediment is too hard and no travail so circuitous that it can be forgotten with a puff of a cigar.
