In the Thane district, two college students drown during a picnic. In three incidents others were rescued, an official said on Tuesday.
Twelve students went on a picnic in the Ambernath area at Malanggad fort on Monday.
In the nearby river, Ambe two of the students went swimming when one of the students started to drown.
To rescue the drowned student two others jumped into the river the student who was drowning was later rescued an official hill line police station said.
Nikhil Kanojia and Ankit Jaiswal are the deceased, both aged 17 and were students at college in Dombivli, he added.
Chief Avinash Sawant from Thane Municipal Corporation regional disaster management cell said to the media, “17-year-old boy fell into a creek from a bridge near Saket in the city on Monday night.
He was rescued by a local fireman and RDMC personnel with the help of a boat.
In Fadkepada lake in the Diva area car fell on Monday night. Local rushed at spot and same save 28-year-old loan car occupant.
Nashik city educational institutes were closed due to continuous heavy rains. Flood-prone areas residents were asked to shift to safer places, officials said.
In the last 24 hours city received a total of 97.4 mm of rainfall. Rain has stopped for a short period giving its residents relief.
“The decision to keep colleges and schools closed today is to take as a precautionary measure. We are closely monitoring the rain situation,” an official from the district collectorate said to the media.
Many residents and shop owners have already shifted from flood-prone areas to safer places, he added.
State Disaster Response Force has also arrived in Nashik for assistance. Near Saptashrungi temple witnessed heavy rains on Monday located 70 Km from the city.
On the return route to the temple, water gushed over the protection wall injuring six devotees who were coming down from the temple. They were rushed to the temple trust hospital and taken to Vani for treatment, said temple authorities to the media.

Amarnath Yatra pilgrims are facing issues due to the massive flood situation and most of the people have also been injured due to this situation. Now the pilgrims of Amarnath Yatra will continue their yatra via Baital route.
The pilgrims will be travelling from the Baital route in the Ganderbal district from Tuesday. In a statement officials stated in the PTI report that “ After a four-day suspension following the flash of floods in the area. It has claimed 15 lives and several were injured”.
Most of the Pilgrims have already resumed their Yatra and the officials stated in the PTI report “ The first fresh batch of pilgrims had left the base camp early morning for the cave shrine”.
While pilgrims were on their way to Amarnath Yatra floods started on July 8 had forced them to temporarily suspend the Yatra as 15 people had lost their lives and approximately 30 people were injured due to flooding near the shrine.
As per the report stated to PTI “Pilgrims had resumed on Monday via Pahalgam route”. It has also stated that Yatra was suspended on Sunday in Jammu and no batches were allowed to proceed to the valley.
A 52-year-old man was found murdered in an apartment in Mumbra area of Maharashtra’s Thane district, police said on Tuesday.
The victim, Abdul Haque Zakir Ali Sayyed, was found dead in his apartment in Kausa area of Mumbra on Monday morning, inspector Babasaheb Nikam of Mumbra police station said.
An offence under section 302 (murder) and other relevant provisions of the IPC has been registered against the unidentified accused, he said. Some unidentified persons slit the victim’s wrists and throat and placed the bloodstained knife in his hand to make it appear like a suicide, the official said.
The victim’s son informed the police about the death, following which the body was sent for post-mortem and a probe is underway, he added.
On Tuesday Former Himachal Pradesh BJP president Khimi Ram joined the congress party. Ram who is also the Deputy speaker for the state said to PTI stating that “he takes pride in joining the party that helped the country to attain freedom.
While welcoming the congress party in Himachal Pradesh Rajiv Shukla the AICC in-charge quoted to PTI stating “It is an indication of the winds blowing in the state”.
The BJP president Khimi Ram has also served as MLA twice from the Banjar assembly constituency of Kullu district from 2003 to 2012. In the past , the has served as Deputy Speaker of Vidhan Sabha of Himachal Pradesh in 2007 and later was elected as BJP chief of Himachal Pradesh.
As per the report BJP President Ram stated to PTI “ I am not joining the Congress out of any towards the BJP. I have taken a well-thought-out decision to take the Congress forward in Himachal Pradesh”.
Ram said that “ He is confident that the Congress will be able to form the government in the state as there is a lot of corruption, unemployment, inflation and pending employee issues including those related to the pension scheme” the statements as mentioned to PTI.
In a report mentioned to PTI Ram said “ We will bring these issues before the people of the state and help to form the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh”. While welcoming the Ram in the congress others were also present on the occasion including AICC Secretaries Sudhir Sharma and Tejinder Bittu.
In Maharashtra’s city at Rabodi area in Thane on Tuesday a portion of the house has been collapsed in which no one was injured or any casualties were reported as per the officials who reported the incident.
In a report quoted to PTI by Avinash Sawant who is the Chief of the regional disaster management cell (RDMC) of the Thane Municipal Corporation said “The incident took place at the Rehmat Nagar locality of Rabodi in the afternoon”.
“Local fireman and a team of the RDMC rushed to the spot and provided assistance after a portion of the single-story structure collapsed” as mentioned to PTI. He also stated, “ Occupants of the house were evacuated and shifted to a safer accommodation”.
In Thane, the city has received 99.77 mm of rain in 24 hours which ended at 8:30 in the morning and the total rainfall was 987.94 mm. The region received 1271.96 mm at the same in the last season as per the officials mentioned in the PTI report.

A cycling expedition from Siachen War Memorial in Ladakh was flagged off on Tuesday to pay homage to the martyrs of the Kargil War.
According to the Indian Army officials, the said expedition will culminate at Kargil war Memorial on July 23 and Sura-Soi Engineer Regiment was also taking part in it.
“A cycling expedition from Siachen War Memorial to Kargil War Memorial was flagged off today to pay homage to the martyrs of Kargil War. Sura-Soi Engineer Regiment is taking part in the expedition which will culminate on July 23 July at Kargil War Memorial,” said the Indian Army officials.
Earlier on July 2, a 20-member team of Indian Army and Indian Air Force led by the women officers from Delhi to Drass valley in the Kargil district of Ladakh set off on a cycling expedition to commemorate India’s 75 years of Independence.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the expedition was flagged off jointly by Lieutenant General MU Nair, Signal Officer-in-Chief and Senior Colonel Commandant, Corps of Signals and Air Marshal R Radhish, Senior Air Staff Officer, Western Air Command from National War Memorial in New Delhi.
These cyclists were tasked to cover 1,600 km in 24 days, which would be culminating at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass on July 25 to commemorate a fitting tribute to the brave martyrs who made the supreme sacrifice during the Kargil War.
The expedition was aimed at bolstering the energy of the young Indians towards nationalism as the cyclists were expected to interact with school children at various stages enroute. They would be acting as a beacon to channelise the immeasurable enthusiasm and zeal of the future leaders of the country.
The July 2 team of cyclists was led by Major Srishti Sharma of the Corps of Signals– a second-generation officer– who was awarded the Chief of Integrated Staff Commendation Card in 2019 for her contribution to various technical-based intelligence operations.
Flagging in of the team at Drass was carried out by Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi and General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Northern Command.
Man sentenced for 10 years RI for kidnapping and assaulting a minor 12
A special court here sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl in Maharashtra’s Thane district.
Special judge V V Virkar on Monday convicted the accused Sajad Aslam Kankali (26) of charges under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The judge sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 13,000 on him. Special public prosecutor Rekha Hiwrale informed the court that the accused and the victim lived in the same colony.
On December 5, 2015, the accused abducted the victim who was playing near her house and took her to a forested area nearby, where he sexually assaulted her and injured her face and back, she said.
The victim came home crying with severe pain in her private parts and recounted the incident to her mother, she said. The prosecution had examined 11 witnesses, including the parents of the victim, during the course of the trial, it was stated
