Rana Daggubati walks out of Bhuj: The Pride of India citing health reasons

Rana DaggubatiAfter Parineeti Chopra dropped out of the Ajay Devgn-starrer Bhuj:The Pride of India, news is that Rana Daggubati has also walked out of the film. He was to play the role of a Madras Regiment Lieutenant Colonel who was posted in Vighakot Chowki and fought in the war.

Reports say that the actor has cited health reasons for not doing the film. As per reports, the makers were keen to have Rana on board and even offered to hire a body double for the actor, but things didn’t work out. Others say that the actor might have walked out of the film due to dates.

Rana Daggubati, who had undergone a major physical transformation for the Baahubali series, had lost considerable weight a few months ago. His losing weight had his fans concerned. Some were of the say that the actor had gone to the US for a kidney transplant. But this was dismissed by the actor.

Daggubati is currently working in a Telugu film Hiranyakashyapa which is right now at the pre-production stage. The film directed by Gunasekar is said to be the costliest Telugu film ever made, surpassing the budget of Baahubali as well.

Rana has another romantic film titled Virata Parvam 1992 that will have Rana playing a cop while Sai Pallavi will be seen as a Naxalite who is in love with the cop.

Meanwhile, Bhuj has been slated to release on Independence Day 2020. The Abhishek Dudhaiya directorial also features Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha and Ammy Virk in pivotal roles.

Ranveer Singh and Yash Raj Films are coming together on what he has called ‘a miracle script’ penned by debutant writer-director Divyang Thakkar. The first-timer is directing Ranveer in a humourous entertainer set in Gujarat and the superstar will be seen playing the role of a Gujarati man for the first time with Jayeshbhai Jordaar. Ranveer, who is neck-deep in shooting for the film, is now travelling to Gujarat to shoot the second schedule of the film along with his heroine Shalini Pandey, the Arjun Reddy famed girl who is making her big Bollywood debut with YRF.

“It is an extensive shooting schedule in the heartland of Gujarat. All details are being kept under wrap because crucial portions of the film are going to be shot in the state. Ranveer has a huge fan following in Gujarat as he has mesmerised them with his performances and there is an expectation that massive crowds will fill up shooting locations. The production team wants to shoot as smoothly as possible and are being light lipped about the venues. The film is set in Gujarat, so this schedule is extremely vital. The team will keep a low profile while shooting in the state. Ranveer and Shalini are both heading to Gujarat today,” informs a source privy to this information.

Ranveer seems to have visibly transformed himself again, shedding many kilos and the first look of the film was an instant hit. He looked unrecognisable as a Gujarati man who was definitely trying to protect the women standing behind him. Ranveer isn’t going to play the alpha hero as played by leading men in Bollywood and from the first look, it is obvious that the film will champion the cause of women empowerment.

While speaking about his look, Ranveer had said, “As Charlie Chaplin once said, ‘To truly laugh, you must be able to take your pain, and play with it!’. Jayeshbhai is an unlikely hero – an ordinary man, who ends up doing something extraordinary when he’s hurled into a threatening situation. Jayeshbhai is sensitive and compassionate. He believes in equal rights between men and women in a society that is deeply rooted in patriarchal ideals, practices and doctrines. Jayeshbhai presented an exciting challenge – to deconstruct myself in order to transform into a kind of character I’ve never inhabited before.”

Ranveer has stamped his superstardom with his incredible body of work. He’s been consistently collaborating with all the top film-makers of the country and has also been displaying exceptional script-sense in selecting projects. He has instinctively backed stories like Padmaavat, in which he wowed the world with his portrayal of an anti-hero in Alauddin Khillji and extended his extraordinary range in Gully Boy, a content film that went on to become a blockbuster. Today, he has amassed nationwide love as an actor across all demographics. So, Jayeshbhai Jordaar, being produced by YRF’s homegrown producer and film-maker Maneesh Sharma, is definitely a film to watch out for!

Ejaz Lakdawala – Yesteryear gangster arrested

Ejaz Lakdawala, ladawala, dawood ibrahim, chhota rajan, chotta shakeel, lakdawala arrested, lakdawala. mumbai police, mumbai crime branchLakdawala, who was on the run for the last 20 years, has been arrested and detained by Mumbai Crime Branch’s anti-extortion cell team at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Lakdawala, who has 27 cases registered against him, has been remanded to police custody till January 21.

Lakdawala worked for underworld don Dawood Ibrahim under Chhota Rajan before forming his own gang, said the police.  His daughter Sonia Lakdawala, who after her marriage, changed her name as Soniya Shaikh was arrested last month from the Mumbai Airport when “she was trying to flee the country with help of a passport acquired through fake documents,” according to the police.

Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Barve said, “We brought Ejaz to Mumbai to verify his identity and booked him at 10.30 pm. There were 25 cases of murder, attempt to murder and extortion case registered against Lakdawala in Mumbai and two in other parts of Maharashtra.” Barve hailed his arrest as a “major achievement.

Ejaz Lakdawala is a former member of the Chhota Rajan gang. Initially, Lakdawala was among the close confidants of Dawood who used to provide logistical support to D-Company members in Mumbai for extorting Bollywood film producers and businessmen. Both the Mumbai and the Delhi police wanted him in over 24 cases of extortion and attempt to murder.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Santosh Rastogi said while efforts to trace Lakdawala were intensified six months ago, the breakthrough came with the arrest of his daughter Sonia (22) on December 28. The police had gradually pushed Lakdawala into a corner after first arresting his brother Aqeel in March 2019.

In 2003, there was a rumour of him having been killed when Dawood’s gang-members, angered by his allegiance to Chhota Rajan, opened fire on him in a crowded market in Bangkok.

In May 2004, he was arrested by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada following an Interpol red corner notice for him. He was admitted to a hospital from where he escaped in June 2003 and fled to South Africa.

Reportedly, Lakdawala was heard to be last operational from Nepal where he lived under the guise of a hosiery businessman and travelled to the United States of America, Malaysia, Canada, Ghana and several countries in Europe under various aliases.

In April 2019, Ejaz’s elder brother, Akeel Yusuf Lakdawala was arrested by AEC for allegedly demanding Rs 50 lakh from a Khar-based developer on Ejaz’s instruction.

With his arrest and deportation of Chhota Rajan, there are speculation that he would play a key role in proving information about Dawood and his gang.

On a tip off by daughter, Ejaz Lakdawala apprehended

On a tip of by his daughter, the Mumbai police arrested Ejaz Lakdawala. In the early morning of January, 09 the police arrested him. His arrest comes on the heels of his daughter Sonia Lakdawala alias Sonia Shaikh’s arrest a fortnight ago at Mumbai International Airport while she was trying to fly to Nepal on a forged passport.  After arrest, he was produced before a Mumbai court and remanded to police custody till January 21. There are speculations that this arrest can bring many underworld equations to surface and also on his inputs Dawood may get traced.

Ejaz is involved in more than 20 cases of extortion, attempted murder and rioting. The Mumbai police was trying to arrest Lakdawala for the last six months but they got important leads after arresting his daughter on December 28.  The police got to know that Ejaz would be visiting Patna on Wednesday and that’s how they grabbed him and brought him back to Mumbai last night. Lakdawala, who is in his 50s, studied in Bandra’s St. Stanislaus School and started out as an employee in his uncle’s transport company. In 1993, he killed one Haren Mehta after an altercation with him at a cricket match for which he was jailed but was later acquitted in 1995. Lakdawala is one of the most wanted gangsters from Mumbai.

In May 2003, he was rumoured to have been killed when Dawood’s gang-members, also known as D-Company, angered by his fidelity to Chhota Rajan, opened fire at him in a crowded market of Bangkok. However, he survived and moved to Canada, there he got in business. In May 2004, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada following an Interpol red corner notice for him, arrested him.

Lakdawala worked for Dawood Ibrahim under Chhota Rajan before they parted ways and formed his own gang. Before 1993, he lived in Malaysia, United States, Nepal, among other countries over the past one-decade. Though he kept on visiting India frequently, but the police could not succeed in tracing him.

After the split of Dawood Ibrahim gang in the aftermath of the 1993 blasts in Mumbai, Lakdawala started working with Chhota Rajan. During his term in the prison, Lakdawala came into contact with Sunil Madgaonkar alias Matya who eased him into the world of Mumbai’s underworld. Matya, a top associate of Chhota Rajan is also credited to have nurtured Rajan’s favourite hit man Rohit. Verma alias Hammer – who was killed in the 2000 shootout at Bangkok in which Rajan escaped with injuries.

Initially, Lakdawala was among the close confidants of Dawood who used to provide logistical support to D-Company members in Mumbai for extorting Bollywood film producers and businessmen. But after Rajan split with Dawood, Lakdawala chose to walk away with Rajan. In fact, his first job in the underworld came through Matya who ordered him to kill Farid Rajji, an aide of Dawood confidant Chhota Shakeel. But Rajji survived the attempt on his life in 1996 and Lakdawala was arrested and sent to the Nashik Jail. He escaped from the jail in 1998 and reached Malaysia. He later shifted his base to Bangkok where he associated himself with Chhota Rajan. In 2003, Lakdawala is believed to have played a major role in the killing of D-Company’s chief financier Sharad Shetty in Dubai that saw Shakeel order a hit on Ejaz Lakdawala. He was shot in a busy market place in Bangkok in 2003, but he survived seven bullet injuries and was admitted to a hospital in Bangkok from where he escaped to South Africa and later to Canada.

Lakdawala was last operational from Nepal where he lived under the guise of a hosiery businessman and travelled to United States of America, Malaysia, Canada, Ghana and several countries in Europe under various aliases, said crime branch sources.

Lakdawala is wanted in several extortion cases in Mumbai, Delhi and other parts of the country. In 2016, the crime branch arrested Ejaz’s brother Akhil alias Merchant and cousin Sameer Lakdawala in connection with an extortion case.

After quitting the Rajan gang, Lakdawala started his own extortion group and randomly kept threatening builders, hoteliers and film personalities.

There was an Interpol notice issued against him. After shootout at Rajan, he shifted to Canada and was known to be living there with a fake identity.

Letters to the Editor: 09 January, 2020

letters to the editor, afternoon voice,

1Every state should be allowed to display cultural performance at Republic Day

Rejecting Maharashtra’s request of a tableau at the Republic Day Parade in the national Capital is revenge politics by the ruling government at the centre. Even Bihar and West Bengal has been sidelined for similar reasons which doesn’t augur well for the unity of the country. Every State should be allowed to display a cultural performance at the Republic Day parade irrespective of the government in any State which may not match the government at the Centre.

A successful democracy is living with differences and trying to solve every problem at hand. Our communal fabric is our strength and politicians should not divide the nation on the basis of any parameters be it religion or differences among political parties. We still have time for Republic Day and hope every State is accommodated to perform.

2Parliamentarians must pay from salaries for non-availed train-reservation

It is quite usual practice amongst parliamentarians that they make multiple priority-reservations in First-Class Air-Conditioned coaches of railways in different trains for a single journey to get benefit of last-moment change in travel-programmes, but evidently use maximum one reservation in a single train. This is because all railway-bills for multiple reservations so made are paid by Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha secretariats irrespective of journeys made or not made by Parliamentarians. Such a practice results in depicting full-reservation to normal commuters desiring to travel in First-Class Air-Conditioned class of trains. It also tends to result in corruption where rail-staff unauthorizedly allows travel persons bribing train-staff to use luxury of First-Class travel in air-conditioned coaches.

System should be formulated whereby Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha Secretariats may for rail-travel of Parliamentarians only on their getting signed and rubber-stamped forms issued by Train-Ticket-Examiners -TTEs for their actually travelling utilised reserved accommodation. Cost of rail-reservation paid by Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha Secretariats for unutilized train-reservation may be deducted from salaries or pension of Parliamentarians.

Violence not going to yield any result

Violence, caa protest, nrc protest, citizenship amendment bill, caa bill, nrc , caa act, protest india, violence in indiaHeart breaking, it is to see all this gory violence, arson, clashes and conflicts in the name of the Citizenship Amendment Act bill. Come what may, violence is not going to yield any good result. Our heads have to hang in shame as this is happening in a land where the greatest of preachers of peace and non-violence were born.

Albert Einstein, the great scientist, once said about Mahatma Gandhi thus, “Generations to come will scarcely believe that such a one as this ever in flesh and blood walked upon this earth”. In a land where the greatest of apostle of peace was born, it seems his people have completely forgotten that. Gandhiji’s principles and ideals paved the way for a nation and its people to unharness themselves from a powerful empire. And to get freedom , Mahatma didn’t  instigate his people to follow the path of violence and crooked ways but preached plain non-violence, truth and tolerance.

There is a lot of difference between the generation the great Mahatma led and that of today. Even though most of the people of that era were poor, uneducated and unemployed, they didn’t resort to unwanted arson, clashes and conflicts and the credit for that goes to the leaders who were committed to the cause. They were dedicated to their motherland, transparent to the core and duty bound to see that they worked along with the followers, teaching them the right way to attain whatever the aim be. Today, we have the so called “leaders” seated in their air-conditioned suites watching arsons and clashes live and remote controlling the activities done by their well-fed mobs. They are neither seen along with the followers nor do they in reality feel the heat of the conflicts. And really amusing is the way in which these leaders yield themselves to get arrested with so much of multimedia fanfare and so!

The language used, the scribbling on the placards and the photo-ops all expose their gimmicks which is just to be in the limelight and nothing else. Poor people are just taken for a ride. They are completely misguided, instigated, incited and brainwashed to the core only for these pseudo leaders to achieve their aims and for their selfish motives. We the citizens of a beautiful nation rich in its culture and heritage must truly introspect ourselves, analyse the matters in deep and choose the right. Let us also not forget the Mahatma’s thought provoking word’s-be the change you wish to see in the world.

Nationwide strike call has minimal effect in Mumbai, state

Bharat BandhThe nationwide strike called by all the trade unions has failed to evoke any response in Maharashtra till Wednesday afternoon with transport and banking services remaining largely unaffected in many districts as well as in the country’s financial capital Mumbai. Besides, no untoward incidents were reported from any region of the state.

Suburban trains known to  be the “lifeline of Mumbai” with a ridership of more than 75 lakh commuters per day, public buses, taxis and autorickshaws have all been running normally in the island city and suburbs.

Similarly, Metro and Monorail services were running smoothly, officials said, adding that BEST-operated bus services were also running as per schedule. Private transport services like taxis and auto-rickshaws were also plying normally in Mumbai.

Besides, film and TV shoots also remained unaffected. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) said that all its members reported to work as usual and nothing was hampered because of the strike.

In Pune, transport services remained unaffected.”Buses operated by the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) are plying normally,” reported Shankar Pawar, Director, PMPML. Educational institutes and commercial establishments in the city remained open as usual.

Federation of Chakan Industries (FCI) secretary Dileep Batwal said that 20 to 25 per cent of industries were affected in Chakan MIDC area due to the strike. In Solapur in south-west Maharashtra, transport and other services remained largely unaffected. A senior Solapur Police officer said that the strike had no impact on the normal life in the city. A district official said that attendance remained thin in various government offices in Solapur.

Trade unions INTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC, TUCC, SEWA, AICCTU, LPF, UTUC along with various sectoral independent federations and associations participated in the strike for various demands.

Voices on Bharat Bandh

Shivani Lokhande

“Yes, I support the concept of Bharat Bandh. When people are politely keeping their points before the government, they haven’t paid attention. My question is why have people to resort to a strike, why can’t the government understand the importance of unemployment, minimum labour wages, privatising the public sectors? As the government is not paying attention to all this, jobs of many public sector workers are at stake for eg :BSNL, MTNL. Labourers are fighting for their rights which I don’t think are wrong. Had the government addressed all the queries in the meeting held on 2nd Jan 2020, then strike wouldn’t have happened. This is a total ignorance of the government.”

 Sumita Chakraborty

“No, I don’t support any bandh. By closing down things, you cause a disruption of work which affects the economics of the country. And if you check our history, none of the bandhs so far has been instrumental to solve a problem. If you want a nation to progress, I think we should do away with this bandh culture as a form of protest.”

Forum Soni

“No, I don’t support Bharat Bandh because I think it creates a lot of inconvenience for the people who work on daily wages. For other people, it doesn’t impact because as for us it’s like a normal holiday and we will enjoy the day. But when it’s a Bharat Bandh, a lot of violence takes place like the bus are burnt, auto-rickshaws doesn’t ply and due to this people suffer. According to me, it’s a complete nuisance for everybody. People who want to do Danga in the country get an opportunity by this.”

 Roshni Vishwakarma

“I don’t support Bharat Bandh. There are many people who are completely dependent on their daily income and are just trying to manage for survival. In a country like India, twists and turns take place everyday and it is really commendable that people are raising their voice against what they feel is right and it’s a sign of democracy. But Bharat Bandh is not a solution as it is harmful for many people.”

 Abhishek Rai

“I don’t support Bharat Bandh. And many people who are supporting Bharat Bandh just because they don’t want to get on the wrong side of urban naxals. We all have seen this first-hand example in JNU where students are trying to create chaos in the University just because they don’t want to get registered for their upcoming exams. Also, we saw the violence regarding the CAA and NRC. A complete no for Bharat Bandh.”

Vinod Patidar

“I don’t support Bharat Bandh, because of this bandh we daily wage workers suffer the most. And talking about the other people, then they have already got their salary. So it won’t affect them at all. Due to Bharat Bandh there is a slowdown in business.”

Aditya Iyer

“I do not support Bharat Bandh as these activities disrupt various other activities of the nation. Moreover conveyance and going to work or places becomes difficult as there are traffic jams. Most of the people try to stop and disrupt public transport. There, it becomes difficult for ambulances as well as school buses to drop the students’ home. These activities affect the economy of the nation as the gross output of the day is lost. I truly believe that bandhs like this are not a solution to any problem and such practices are just a waste of time.”

Ashesh Pandya

“It is very difficult question to answer which side you are. I would not like to take any side. This is not the right time for any kind of bandh in India the economy is on the downslide and everything is haywire. This kind of politics is absolutely a no no. I will not support bandh.”

Dilip Joshi

“I don’t know whether I should support Bharat Bandh or not but all I can say I am tired of the current government because of their work. I don’t quite understand the motive behind the strikes and if the government fails to fulfill the single demand of people then we will show them the true power of democracy.”

Saburi Vilankar

“Being the citizen, I would never support Bharat Bandh as it brings violence and safety issues along with it. Seeing all the current situation it’s good that Mumbai seldom witness bandh, even a single day counts for our economy and sabotage with it. This is my opinion and I think we all should think clearly and concisely.”

Chetan Kirdat

“Bharat Bandh in my point of view is choking your own country’s market for a day or more. Let me give you an example; on Wednesday I went to Kurla spare parts market to buy some parts for my bike. But the entire market was closed in support against CAA and NRC. As on every shop it was written, the shop will remain closed in support against CAA and NRC. Closure of shops would definitely affect the business. So, in the name of Bharat Bandh you are choking your own business. I don’t think bandh can be the right way to oppose.”
