Powell, Tata meet CM Chavan

Nancy-PowellUS Ambassador to India Nancy Powell lauded the strides made by Maharashtra on the industrial development front in the last few years.

Powell, the outgoing US envoy, met chief minister Prithviraj Chavan and discussed issues like the ongoing Lok Sabha polls, post-poll ties between India and the US and economy, an official said, after the meeting.

Powell appreciated the cooperation extended by the state government to the various initiatives of the US consulate.

The chief minister dwelt on the need for the US universities to open campus for Indian students so that they get to learn global-level curriculum.

Powell also wanted to know about the Delhi-Mumbai industrial corridor. Chavan informed the envoy that besides Pune and Mumbai, industrial development was taking place in urban centres like Nagpur, Nashik and Aurangabad.

Meanwhile, Tata Group Chairman Emeritus Ratan Tata also met Chavan and expressed the desire to be part of the initiatives of the state government in education, employment and health sectors, as part of corporate social responsibility.
