With crucial stage two clearance from various sectors, the greenfield airport has inched closer to reality. Planning is the need of the hour when you opt go for major projects relating to the face lift of Navi Mumbai. First of all, the Navi Mumbai Airport Project is on the cards and after long deliberation the clearance was given to such a big project and that in turn helped to increase realty prices in the city. The project will take 10 years to complete and meticulous planning is required to make the Airport of International standards. However, care should be taken when allotting permission to build sky scrappers in and around the airport area. In this regard, NMMC can take the help of a committee comprising citizens from Navi Mumbai and work on the planning based on the recommendations by the said committee. It is a dream project and utmost care needs to be taken. So, the second airport of International standards should avoid all the major drawbacks in Mumbai airport and have a well laid out plan to avoid shortcomings. The main problem with Mumbai Airport is congestion.  Safety should be the first option if a big airplane lands in our airstrip. Apart from this the runway does not have the mandatory side strips to cushion planes in case of skids or crashes. Inaccurate markings near parking bays were another cause of concern, as they are important for take off, landing and taxing. Many minor collisions involving aircraft and ground vehicles could have been avoided had the markings been accurate. The height of the hangers is also a problem as some of them exceed the permissible limit. This affects the movement of a big aircrafts.
