The steps taken such as Project Tiger has benefited in increase of Tiger population in this country. Save Tiger campaign initiated by the Government did make a great beginning and continue to go far and wide to increase Tiger population to 2266 and it is a significant improvement to what it was in the year 2006. Despite all the efforts it is indeed a sorry state of affairs that more number of tigers are dying every year, thus reducing their population considerably till 2012. It is time to protect tigers from dying. To check poaching, the Gujarat government has decided to keep a check on vehicles entering the Gir Reserve and a close watch on activities and movement of labourers entering from other states. Some of the tigers fell in open wells and arrangements is made to cover 9000 odd wells. Forest patrolling has been intensified to curtail poaching. Nearly 50 cubs died during the relevant period and 25 female tigers died as compared to 18 male tigers. Save Tiger campaign should start in full earnest or else we can see extinction of this animal during the next century.
