Sonia-unwell-pawarRahul Gandhi with Mother’s lieutenants attended the Mumbai rally in urgency. Pawar skipped the gathering after knowing that Mrs. Gandhi is not attending it.

The much awaited Congress rally which was supposed to be attended by the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson and Congress President Sonia Gandhi was cancelled due to her illness. Even Sharad Pawar, Nationalist Congress Party’s (NCP) supremo skipped the rally after learning that she is not attending the rally.

The Congress party said Sonia Gandhi is unwell, but refused to disclose any details about her illness.
Congress members received a setback in the morning when they learnt that their president is not attending the event.
“Members of the Congress Party were enthusiastic about Sonia’s rally but it’s unfortunate that she has not come,” said one of the members. When asked about Sharad Pawar, he said, “He was supposed to be present at the event but in the last moment, we got the news that he is also not coming for the rally.”

“We were preparing for the rally since past fifteen days. It’s good that Rahul Gandhi has attended it,” said MPCC spokesperson Sachin Sawant.

MRCC chief Janardhan Chandurkar said they were expecting over a crowd of two lakh at the rally. “It will have a direct impact on voters. After this rally, the fence sitters will also join the Congress. We are sure this rally will help us get all the six candidates from the city re-elected.”

He said that through this rally, the Congress has sent a clear message, particularly to the Muslims and Dalits, that the party is with them. “We will not allow anyone to divide the country on religious lines,” said Chandurkar.
While addressing the rally, at around 7: 45Pm, Rahul Gandhi, Congress Vice President attacked Modi over Adani. He said, Narendra Modi has given 45,000 acres of land in Gujarat to Adani Groups at the throw away price of Rs. 30 crore. The land is equivalent to your Thane district.”

However, Maharashtra’s biggies from Congress party were present at the event. Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, Jayant Patil, Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, Narayan Gandhi, MPCC president Manikrao Thakre, MRCC President Janardhan Chandurkar and Rajeev Shukla were present at the rally.

BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi will hold a public meet at the same venue today.
