Australian open Women’s Final saw a new star has come to the Tennis horizon in Angelique Kerber as the new Women’s Singles Champion. She won the coveted trophy in style and the way she disposed off Women’s World number one Serena in three sets is now history. Kerber came, saw and conquered the Australian open for the first time. At the age of 28 Kerber proved that she is a force to reckon with in the International Women’s tennis circuit. Despite high ranking of Serena, the German made the defending champion run for her money. This is the maiden grand slam singles title for her and it came in beating a champion of champion. She won the title with her consistent serve, clean volleys and deft placements to outdo a senior player. It is a great tribute to her concentration and confidence and her will to pull up and show big match temperament. Kerber, who had never played in a Grand Slam Final, made most of Serena’s nerves to win a major title. Thus Kerber will move to second spot in Women’s singles ranking topped by Serena Williams at No 1.  It was a stunning win for the German but Serena behaved in a very sportive way throughout the award ceremony and after the loss and showed her sporting spirit to the tennis World.
