A Motor Accident Claim Tribunal (MACT) at Thane court has passed a landmark decision and settled the claim of an accident victim’s family within a record time of six months.
Disposing the case of a motor accident victim from Kanjurmarg, the MACT panel yesterday ordered SBI General Insurance to pay Rs. 80 lakh to the victim’s wife.
Following the order, the insurance company immediately handed over the cheque to the victim’s wife Manisha Kangralkar (35).
The victim Shantaram Kangralkar (37), a resident of Kanjurmarg in the district, had died on the spot when the autorickshaw in which he was returning home from work at 11 pm on November 12, 2013 was hit by a speeding SUV at Vikroli-Jogeshwari Link Road, while the auto driver survived with minor injuries.
At that time, Kangralkar was working as a Manager (projects) with a private company and earning a salary of Rs. 9.50 lakh per annum.
The claimants informed the tribunal in the petition that the victim was the sole bread winner of the family.
Based on the investigator’s report, the insurance firm and the family of the victim agreed for an early mutual settlement with a negotiated amount of Rs. 80 lakh.
The court appreciated the humanitarian move of the insurance company.
